Backend Software Engineer (New York, NY)
Backend Software Engineer (New York, NY)
- Part-time role (25 hrs/week, 6 months).
- Responsible for backend development powering real-time subway signage, TrainTime app, and data processing systems
- Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) in New York, NY
- Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with a strong product/customer focus
- Independently solves problems with a forward-thinking, action-oriented approach
- Collaborates closely with engineers, product, and design teams
- Passionate and curious about transit systems and commuter experience
- Technical Skills:
- Software development best practices
- Familiarity with fullstack platforms (Firebase, Netlify, Sentry, AWS preferred)
- Experience with JVM languages, RESTful APIs, message queues, networking
- GIS/location-based data experience (ESRI) is a plus
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience/education)
- Prior experience in:
- Customer-facing application development
- Project management and technical documentation (scopes, requirements, estimates)
- Graphic design for web, software design principles, user interface design
- Interview: Video
