Software Engineer - AI & Legal Tech Transformation

Location: Hybrid - New York

Compensation: $160,000 - $250,000

We are a fast-growing legal technology company, founded by a mix of legal operators and tech veterans from top-tier companies, focused on solving high-impact problems in the legal world. We are turning chaos—repetitive tasks, paper-based bottlenecks, and data fragmentation—into clarity using well-designed systems, AI, and thoughtful software. We are seeking a Software Engineer to own critical features end-to-end and influence our engineering culture from the ground up.

You will be responsible for building fast, shipping often, and partnering closely with cross-functional teams (product, ops, design, and legal experts). This role demands high ownership, requiring you to manage the full feature lifecycle from architecture design to production release. You must move quickly without sacrificing quality, integrating safety, observability, and performance from the start.

What you'll do:

• Own Major Features: Design, build, and ship production-grade full-stack systems across our core workflows (Python/Django, React)
• AI Integration: Implement and scale features that utilize AI/LLM capabilities (OpenAI & more) to automate complex administrative and data-intensive legal work
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with product, operations, design, and legal experts to define requirements and deliver high real-world impact
• Move Fast, Safely: Build in safety, observability, and performance from the start, ensuring high-quality releases in a rapid development environment
• Set the Standard: Help shape and influence our engineering culture, tech stack, and best practices as a key early team member
  
  

Requirements

• Experience: 3+ years of experience building reliable, secure software in production environments
• Full-Stack Comfort: Comfortable working full-stack across our primary technologies (we use Python/Django, React, AWS, and AI tools)
• Quality & Reliability: Writes clean, maintainable code and cares deeply about testing, observability, and performance
• Mindset: Thrives in ambiguous environments, takes pride in figuring things out, and is decisive and pragmatic
• Product Focus: Cares as much about product outcomes and solving real-world customer problems as about technical decisions
• Work Policy: Ability to work in-person 4 days/week in our NYC office (Flatiron) for high-context collaboration (Hybrid)
