Job Requirements for a Mid-Level Network Engineer (Onsite, Hands-On Role)
Technical Skills & Experience:
Networking Protocols: Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, DHCP, and DNS.
Routing & Switching: Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent network devices.
Firewalls & Security: Experience with firewall policies, VPN configurations, and security appliances (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA).
Wireless Networking: Familiarity with enterprise Wi-Fi deployments, access points, and troubleshooting wireless connectivity issues.
Network Monitoring & Tools: Experience using monitoring tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark, or Nagios for network health checks and troubleshooting.
Hardware Experience: Installation and maintenance of switches, routers, patch panels, cabling, and network racks.
Cloud Networking: Exposure to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud networking (VPNs, VPCs, direct connects) is a plus.
VoIP & Unified Communications: Experience with VoIP systems, SIP protocols, and network support for voice traffic is beneficial.
Soft Skills & Work Environment:
Must be comfortable working onsite daily and providing hands-on network support.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, able to diagnose and resolve network issues quickly.
Excellent documentation skills (network diagrams, change logs, incident reports).
Ability to work independently and collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and end-users.
Strong communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
Willingness to be on-call or work occasional after-hours for maintenance as needed
