Hatchit Studios is seeking an experienced UI/UX Designer to contribute to a major digital uplift and application modernisation program within a federal government environment. The role focuses on improving user experience, accessibility, and design consistency across core digital platforms.
You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, business stakeholders, and technical leads to deliver modern, user-centred design solutions that meet government standards and enhance service usability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design intuitive, user-centred interfaces for government platforms and internal systems
- Conduct user research, interviews, discovery workshops, and usability testing
- Develop wireframes, clickable prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs
- Create user journeys, personas, experience maps, and IA artefacts to guide decision-making
- Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements and inclusive design principles
- Align designs to the Australian Government Digital Service Standard and UI pattern libraries
- Work closely with developers to ensure design feasibility and consistent implementation
- Promote design best practice and contribute to continuous improvement of design methods
Skills & Experience Required
- 3+ years professional experience in UI/UX or product design roles
- Strong portfolio demonstrating human-centred design and iterative design methods
- Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, Axure RP, Miro, or equivalent industry-standard tools
- Practical understanding of WCAG 2.1, accessibility standards, and inclusive design
- Experience facilitating design workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions
- Familiarity with government UI frameworks and service design standards
- Active NV1 Security Clearance (mandatory requirement)
Highly Desirable
- Service Design experience, including journey mapping and service blueprinting
- Exposure to large-scale transformation or legacy system modernisation projects
- Data-informed design approach using analytics, behavioural insights, or structured research
