This programme is focused on modernising the organisation’s core systems and delivering high-performing, scalable digital solutions. As part of this engagement, we are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join the IT development team and play a key role in building and integrating next-generation applications using cutting-edge technologies across API, cloud, and microservice architectures.

Role Overview

As a Senior Java Developer, you will work as part of a small, highly skilled team delivering innovative technology solutions. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software as part of the client’s WM 2.0 programme. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, contributing technical expertise to solution design, and ensuring best practices in coding, testing, and deployment within an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications and microservices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across IT and business to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Conduct detailed task analysis, provide technical insight, and contribute to solution architecture.
• Develop and test APIs, ensuring security, scalability, and performance.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
• Ensure code quality through rigorous unit and integration testing (JUnit).
• Support the deployment of solutions into cloud and containerised environments (e.g., AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping evolve the technology stack and delivery practices.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential Skills:

• Minimum 8 years’ experience in software development, including 8+ years of core Java.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Java 21+
• Spring / Spring Boot
• SQL, MyBatis
• Git or similar version control systems
• RESTful web services / microservices
• Unit and integration testing (JUnit)
• Proven experience working within an Agile environment.

Desirable Skills:

• Exposure to additional programming languages (e.g., C#, C, Python, PHP, R).
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with API testing tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or JMeter.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of 3rd party integrations and complex enterprise system landscapes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
