Cyber Security Specialist (Disaster Recovery Focus)
Location: Swords, Co. Dublin
Work Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
Contract Start Date: December 2025
Contract Duration: 6 months (with up to two 6-month extensions)
About the Role
We are seeking an Intermediate Cyber Security Specialist with a focus on Disaster Recovery (DR) to support the delivery of secure, resilient IT operations for a major national organization. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans for both existing IT infrastructure and future programs, including large-scale national initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to join a multidisciplinary environment, providing technical expertise, leadership, and operational support in cyber resilience and recovery planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plans for on-premises and cloud-based IT platforms supporting critical services.
- Design and implement a Census Disaster Recovery Plan to ensure continuity of systems supporting national data programs.
- Assess potential impacts of IT service disruptions and coordinate activation of DR plans when necessary.
- Translate business operations recovery requirements into actionable DR programs, data centre strategies, and recovery testing frameworks.
- Conduct Business Impact Analyses (BIA) to identify critical systems and resource dependencies.
- Collaborate with business and system owners to prioritise essential services.
- Develop and oversee testing strategies for DR plans (e.g. simulation, tabletop, and full-interruption tests).
- Continuously improve DR environments and ensure alignment with industry standards and regulations (e.g. ISO 27001, ITIL, DRII, BCI).
Mandatory Requirements (Pass/Fail Criteria)
1- Experience: 4–6 years of professional experience in a Disaster Recovery Specialist or equivalent cyber security role.
2- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
One or more of the following (or equivalent) professional certifications:
- ISC²: CISSP
- ISACA: CISM, CRISC, CISA, CGEIT
- ISO 27001 Lead Auditor / Lead Implementer
- CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+)
- ISO 22301 Lead Implementer / Lead Auditor / Certified Business Continuity Management
(Evidence of qualifications and certifications may be required prior to contract award.)
3- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English.
Non-native English speakers must hold a C2 (Mastery/Proficiency) certificate under the CEFR or equivalent.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of Disaster Recovery planning techniques, risk analysis, and Business Impact Analysis (BIA) methodologies.
- Experience using DR planning software to manage recovery procedures, offsite storage, and data centre contingencies.
- Proven ability to design and test IT Disaster Recovery Plans for both natural and malicious event scenarios.
- Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, and storage systems, as well as IT security management practices.
- Familiarity with vendor management for external DR service providers.
- Experience defining and implementing risk-based standards for IT continuity and recovery.
- Working knowledge of industry frameworks such as ISO 27001, ITIL v3, DRI International (DRII), and Business Continuity Institute (BCI) standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across technical and management levels.
