About the ProjectStarship Crafter is a sci-fi ship-building and management game currently in production for PC/Steam.
We are expanding the team to bring a high-level 2D artist who can define and elevate the visual identity of the game both in marketing art and in-game assets.
We are NOT looking for a basic illustrator.
We are looking for someone who can create polished, cinematic, production-ready sci-fi artwork.
Role SummaryYou will create all key 2D visuals for the game, including:
- Steam capsule art (Main Capsule, Vertical, Hero Assets)
- High-quality game icon
- 2D character designs (portraits, workers, droids, sci-fi crew)
- UI icons, indicators, symbol sets
- Paint-over/photobash-based materials for characters, props, and promotional banners
Your work will directly affect the game’s public image on Steam and all promotional channels.
Responsibilities1. High-Quality Key Art & Capsule Illustration- Create polished Steam store capsule artworks with professional composition, clarity, and branding.
- Develop promotional visuals for social platforms and trailers.
- Produce high-quality character/droid portraits using
- sketch → lineart → photobash → paint-over workflows.
- Deliver consistent visual language for Starship Crafter’s universe.
- Combine real-world photos, textures, and 3D blockouts to achieve fast, realistic, sci-fi quality.
- Use advanced Photoshop workflows: masks, blend modes, adjustment layers, texture blending.
- Deliver clean PSDs and exported sprites with proper resolution, pivot, and naming.
- Ensure artwork is optimized and production-ready.
Mandatory Requirements (Must-Have):
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Photoshop
- (advanced masking, photo integration, texture blending, adjustment layers, color grading).
- Strong traditional drawing & painting fundamentals
- Proven experience with photobashing workflows
– Ability to combine photographic elements with paint-over to create cohesive, production-ready artwork.
– Portfolio MUST include at least a few pieces showing photobash + paint-over results.
- Ability to create polished sci-fi artwork (characters, portraits, machinery, environments, or props).
- High-quality character illustration skills (clean silhouettes, expressive faces, believable forms).
- Experience creating key art / promotional art (capsule art, banners, marketing visuals, or hero shots).
- Clean file management and game-ready asset preparation (layered PSD organization, high-resolution exports, proper naming, and optimized output for Unity).
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) in a remote team.
- Comfortable communicating in English (written + basic spoken communication for meetings).
- A strong portfolio showing refined final pieces, not only sketches or rough concept attempts.
- Experience creating art for a commercial PC or console game.
- Familiarity with PureRef, texture libraries, or asset management workflows.
- Basic understanding of 3D blockout for paint-over (Blender, Daz3D, SketchUp, etc.).
- Knowledge of sci-fi design language, panels, decals, tech details, and industrial shapes.
- Familiarity with Unity’s 2D asset pipeline (import settings, slicing, pivots, etc.).
- Experience designing UI icons, symbols, and simplified graphic elements.
- Good understanding of sci-fi UI/tech-like iconography.
- A key artistic role with full ownership of the game’s visual identity.
- Ability to influence art direction and style.
- Fully remote collaboration with a small but focused production team.
- Opportunity to create headline visuals for a commercial PC game on Steam.
- 4-month full-time contract, €600-€800 / month.
- Potential continuation for long-term collaboration.
