🔌 Software Engineer – Power the Brains Behind Electric Machinery

Company: New Electric

Location: Breukelen, Netherlands (on-site/hybrid optional)

Seniority Level: Mid-level

Employment Type: Full-time

About New Electric

At New Electric, we build more than machines—we build the future of sustainable heavy industry. Based in Breukelen, Netherlands, we design and integrate electric drivetrains and high-voltage battery systems into specialized construction machinery.

We bring together electrical, mechanical, and software engineering expertise under one roof, with in-house prototyping and testing. Our software team plays a critical role in making our systems safe, smart, and high-performing—and we’re growing.

The Role

We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Software Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. In this role, you’ll develop embedded software that drives our electric vehicle systems—ranging from battery management and motor control to safety logic and diagnostics.

You’ll collaborate with hardware and mechanical engineers, testing your code in real machines and refining it through rapid iteration in our production workshop.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for electric drivetrains, battery systems, and supporting controllers

  • Write efficient, high-quality code in C and use CodeSYS for PLC-based software development

  • Program and configure real-time control systems

  • Implement communication protocols (e.g., CAN bus, UART) and develop diagnostics systems

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software and system behavior

  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues during development, testing, and deployment

  • Integrate and validate software with hardware components and full vehicle systems

  • Write and manage software requirements and maintain version control

  • Contribute to QA, continuous integration (e.g., using Jenkins, SonarQube)

  • Support documentation, compliance, and safety testing (e.g., ISO 26262 or functional safety)

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field

  • Experience with embedded systems and control software development (C, Python, or similar)

  • Familiarity with electric vehicle systems, battery management systems, or motor controllers is a plus

  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, control logic, and data flows

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Fluency in English; Dutch is a plus
