Job Purpose

The AI Engineer will design and implement cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence solutions that directly impact patient care and clinical outcomes. This role merges AI with healthcare by developing scalable systems leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to transform healthcare operations and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

AI Solution Development & Implementation

  • Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end AI/ML solutions for healthcare applications, including clinical decision support, medical imaging analysis, patient risk stratification, and predictive analytics.
  • Build and implement LLM applications for clinical documentation, medical literature synthesis, and patient interaction systems.
  • Implement RAG systems for integrating medical knowledge bases and clinical guidelines.
  • Develop scalable AI architectures across Azure, AWS, and GCP for optimal performance and cost efficiency.
  • Work with complex healthcare datasets, including EHR, DICOM, HL7/FHIR, and unstructured clinical notes.

ML & Deep Learning Expertise

  • Develop and optimize supervised and unsupervised ML models for diverse healthcare applications.
  • Build and deploy deep learning models such as CNNs for medical image analysis and RNNs for time-series healthcare predictions.
  • Apply transfer learning and model fine-tuning for healthcare-specific applications.
  • Address challenges like imbalanced datasets, missing data, and data augmentation to improve model generalization.

LLM & Agentic AI Development

  • Fine-tune and deploy foundation models like GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, Llama, and Mistral for healthcare use cases.
  • Build agent orchestration frameworks using LangChain, LlamaIndex, and AutoGen for healthcare workflows.
  • Implement autonomous healthcare agents with function calling and tool-use capabilities to enhance clinical efficiency.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to translate workflows into autonomous AI solutions.
  • Partner with data engineers, software developers, clinicians, and product managers to develop healthcare-driven solutions.

Governance & Compliance

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to the Head of Technology / Chief Technology Officer.

Compliance Responsibilities

  • Ensure AI solutions adhere to HIPAA, GDPR, and other data privacy regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, ICD-10, and SNOMED CT.

Decision-Making Authority

  • Exercises technical autonomy in AI architecture, model selection, and implementation frameworks within approved policies and budget.

Technical Skills

  • Mathematical foundations: Linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning and deep learning principles (supervised/unsupervised learning, classification, regression, clustering).
  • Expertise in Python (NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn).
  • Experience with frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, ChromaDB).
  • Experience in prompt engineering, few-shot learning, and in-context learning.

Education

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or Biomedical Engineering preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience, including 2 years in the healthcare domain.
  • Proven experience with LLMs and Generative AI in production environments.
  • Strong exposure to large-scale healthcare datasets and medical terminology.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Azure AI Engineer, AWS ML Specialty, or GCP ML Engineer.

Working Conditions

Work Environment

  • Office-based role in Abu Dhabi with close collaboration across technical and clinical teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods on computer systems; occasional travel for collaboration or conferences.

Travel Requirements

  • Minimal, primarily for project coordination or external workshops when required.
