Our Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites applications for an internship. Our experts from the Center for Digital Safety & Security are developing state-of-the-art information and communication technologies to ensure that our systems are highly secure and reliable in the context of comprehensive digitalisation and global networking – Hereby we focus on a variety of key technologies like Distributed IT Systems, Internet of Things, IoT, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain Technologies, Quantum & Photonic Technologies, Wireless Systems (6G) and Digital solutions for crisis & disaster management.
The research field Cyber Security within the Competence Unit for Security and Communication Technologies is leading in applied research of highly innovative aspects of security, including anomaly detection, cyber ranges, penetration testing, and cryptography.
Specifically, our cryptography team is conducting innovative research - for public key cryptography, including secure communication, privacy-enhancing technologies, and long-term and post-quantum security. Our research covers the full spectrum from idea creation to the development of prototypes and demonstrators.
CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY
- Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, you will support the design, implementation, integration and evaluation of the latest methods in various application areas.
- With your support, we will work on the development of quantum-classical cryptographic methods for secure communication, their integration and implementation.
- You will learn how to conduct cryptographic research as well as how to perform secure cryptographic implementations and how to evaluate them.
- You support us in our international projects and get exciting insights into our technological environment.
- You will gain experience in the development and use of cryptography in current and future applications.
- You will have not only the opportunity to discuss your work experiences and results with experienced scientific peers, but also to connect with other bachelor’s, master’s or PhD students.
- You will gain practical experience with one of the leading research companies in Austria.
- You are currently enrolled in a master’s study programme in the field of informatics, computer science, mathematics or similar
- You have good knowledge of object-oriented Python programming language
- Knowledge in cryptography
- Interest to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate on different topics
- Good verbal and written English skills (team language is English), German skills would be a plus
- Duration of the internship: minimum 2 months
- Start date: between March and September 2026 – However there is some flexibility concerning the start-date
- A remuneration of EUR 1.415,-- gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. In addition to our company benefits, we offer flexible working conditions and work experience in a highly innovative environment.
