We are seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Azure Platform team on a 12-month contract. This is not a standard DevOps role - it's a platform-focused engineering position with a strong emphasis on observability, security, platform health, and automation. You will be hands-on in building dashboards, identifying platform gaps, enhancing security posture, and ensuring the Azure environment is fully monitored, compliant, and reliable.
You will be responsible for shaping how the Azure platform is observed, secured, and automated. This includes designing monitoring solutions, identifying coverage gaps, improving visibility across the stack, and creating automated operational workflows that prevent incidents before they occur. You'll work closely with architecture, security, and operations teams to uplift platform maturity and deliver actionable insights through dashboards, reporting, and telemetry.
Build and maintain advanced observability dashboards (Azure Workbooks, Power BI, Splunk, App Insights) to surface platform health, reliability, and security posture.
Identify monitoring gaps across the Azure platform and lead remediation to ensure full visibility and compliance.
Design and implement automation workflows to improve reliability, prevent incidents, and enforce governance standards.
Manage and enhance the Azure platform's operational readiness-ensuring it is secure, observable, and optimised.
Strengthen security alignment through Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, logging standards, and compliance checks.
Develop platform-level IaC using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM to enforce consistency and policy governance.
Use Python or PowerShell to automate operational, compliance, and monitoring tasks.
Support SRE practices including error budgets, SLOs, runbooks, and proactive telemetry-driven operations.
Collaborate with architecture and security teams to drive platform improvements and observability standards.
4+ years' experience as an Azure Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or Azure DevOps Engineer with observability or security exposure.
Deep experience with Azure Monitor, LAW, Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud.
Strong Terraform skills (highly valued by hiring manager).
Scripting experience in Python and/or PowerShell.
Experience designing or maintaining dashboards using Azure Workbooks, Splunk, Power BI, Grafana, or App Insights.
Strong understanding of cloud governance frameworks (CIS, ISO, NIST).
Ability to identify platform visibility gaps and define what should be monitored across Azure services.
Background in automation, proactive operations, and security-aligned engineering.
Experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or modern observability frameworks.
Exposure to Sentinel or other Microsoft security tooling.
Azure certifications across DevOps, Security, or Architecture disciplines.
Container platform experience (AKS, Docker, Kubernetes).
Heavy focus on observability, dashboards, platform telemetry and security - not classic CI/CD-only DevOps.
Opportunity to uplift how the entire Azure platform is monitored and secured.
High visibility across cloud engineering, architecture, and cyber security teams.
Enterprise-scale environment with strong automation and SRE principles.
