What the ideal candidate looks like…

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience building complex backend or data-driven systems
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with PHP (Laravel)
• Strong coding skills, but also a good sense for working together with team members
• Naturally stays up to date with the latest tech trends and loves to experiment with new tools and ideas, no push needed
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Available to work at least 3 days per week from our office in the Netherlands (Leeuwarden or Deventer)

What do you and your team do?

As Senior Backend Developer at Sportmonks, your primary focus will be on solving complex technical challenges. You'll dive deep into backend architecture, real time data processing systems, and scalable solutions that power our APIs and tools. From optimizing performance to designing future-proof infrastructure, you’ll be hands-on with the core technology that drives our business forward. You’ll work primarily with PHP (Laravel) and OOP.

But working at Sportmonks means more than writing excellent code. You’ll also play a key role in professionalizing the development team, helping to shape priorities, reviewing code, and improving processes. You’ll collaborate closely with other developers, product owners, and stakeholders to make sure we’re building the right things in the right way, and on time.
