Our challenge
Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee large, complex, and strategic initiatives that may impact various organizational functions outside of traditional IT. This role involves guiding projects related to process improvement, policy change, service delivery, or organizational transformation to ensure successful outcomes aligned with business needs and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Apply project management best practices and standards, working within established frameworks or helping to define new ones where absent.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop project charters, proposals, and planning documents.
- Establish a project organization with clearly defined roles and responsibilities in partnership with project leads.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risks, dependencies, and resource requirements to meet objectives.
- Identify key milestones, success factors, critical dependencies, and policy implications; monitor progress regularly.
- Contribute to project deliverables such as research, surveys, reports, and risk assessments to ensure quality and timeliness.
- Lead and facilitate project and steering committee meetings, ensuring clear communication of project status and issues.
- Document and manage changes to scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate approvals and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and develop strategies for issues, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide high-level business analysis, change management, and communication support as needed.
- Ensure comprehensive hand-over of project outputs and documentation to the project management office (PMO).
- Collaborate with sponsors to assess whether project outcomes are achieved and document lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in a non-IT project management role, managing large or complex projects.
- At least 3 years of experience defining project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with business stakeholders.
- Proven track record of developing project documentation such as charters, business cases, risk logs, and status reports.
- Extensive experience offering strategic recommendations on complex business issues without relying on formal precedents.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing needs.
Nice to Have:
- Experience creating and managing project forecasts using Microsoft Project.
- Proven leadership and facilitation skills with stakeholders at all levels.
- Familiarity with MS Project tools within a project server environment.
- Experience working in or with the public sector.
