Junior Artificial Intelligence Engineer - Fintech

Location: Remote-First (Central London HQ)

Salary: Up to £55,000

Start Date: ASAP

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly capable and intellectually curious Junior AI Engineer to join a fast-growing fintech company building next-generation AI infrastructure for financial services.

This role is designed for a recent AI-focused Master’s graduate from a leading university who wants to move beyond academic models and work on real production systems. You’ll be responsible for designing, training, and deploying AI models that support complex financial decision-making, risk analysis, and automation for institutional clients.

You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, data scientists, and product leaders, and you’ll be encouraged to think deeply about system behaviour end-to-end—data quality, model performance, evaluation, failure modes, and how AI fits into real financial workflows within a modern fintech platform.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Designing, training, and deploying machine learning and deep learning models for financial analytics, credit / risk scoring, and portfolio insights

  • Building LLM-powered tools (e.g. using GPT-class models) that assist with data extraction, document understanding, investor reporting, and internal decision-support

  • Implementing end-to-end AI pipelines: data ingestion, cleaning, feature engineering, experimentation, model training, evaluation, and deployment

  • Developing robust evaluation and monitoring frameworks for models (including regression tests, performance tracking, and drift detection)

  • Working with structured and unstructured financial data (tabular data, time series, PDFs, text, etc.) and designing appropriate representations and features

  • Collaborating with product and domain experts to translate fintech and capital-markets workflows into well-scoped AI problems and measurable targets

  • Contributing to internal R&D on LLM evaluation, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and methods for improving reliability and explainability of models in financial contexts

What We’re Looking For:

  • A completed AI-focused Master’s degree from a top-tier university such as: MSc Artificial Intelligence, MSc Machine Learning, MSc Data Science with a strong AI / ML track. Or a closely related programme with substantial AI / ML content

  • Strong applied project experience in machine learning or deep learning (thesis, research projects, internships, or substantial personal projects)

  • Excellent Python skills with experience using core AI/ML libraries (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy)

  • Experience training, tuning, and evaluating models using real datasets (not just toy examples), including careful validation and error analysis

  • Familiarity with modern LLM tooling and workflows (e.g. using APIs, building simple RAG or prompt-based systems) is highly advantageous

  • Comfortable working in Linux-based development environments, using Git, testing, and basic CI practices

  • A structured, “extended thinking” mindset: you enjoy breaking down complex, ambiguous problems, reasoning step-by-step, and considering long-term behaviour and trade-offs in AI systems

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Comfortable working in a remote-first, fast-paced fintech start-up environment with a high degree of ownership

  • Full right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)

Benefits:

💰 Competitive Salary & Equity: Up to £55,000

🏡 Remote-First with Central London Base: Primarily remote, with a central London office available for collaboration days and team meet-ups

📈 Career Growth: Direct mentorship from experienced engineers and founders, fast progression in a high-growth AI-driven fintech

🧠 Deep Technical Work: Opportunity to work on challenging, high-impact AI problems with real financial data and users

🛠 Modern Engineering Practices: Exposure to modern MLOps, experimentation workflows, and best practices in production AI

🤝 Collaborative Culture: Join a supportive, intellectually rigorous team that values deep thinking, ownership, and high-quality engineering

Additional Perks: Pension scheme, private healthcare, regular team socials, and wellbeing initiatives

How to Apply:

If you’re excited by the opportunity to apply your AI Master’s training to real-world problems in financial technology, please send us your CV. A member of the team will be in touch to discuss next steps.
