We are looking for a LLM Engineer to join our team at JTA. In this role, you'll be instrumental in shaping our Data Science & AI department, taking an important part in the R&D of cutting-edge solutions, while contributing across the broader ML and software engineering stack. You’ll work on end-to-end delivery of ML systems, collaborate closely with business and tech stakeholders, and play an active role in mentoring others and evolving our engineering best practices.
What you will be doing:
- Contribute to the vision and growth of JTA’s Data Science & AI department.
- Work across a diverse set of solutions, from GenAI and LLMs to sequential recommendation models, covering classic NLP tasks as well.
- Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into ML solutions.
- Explore, research, and prototype new ideas to help bridge the gap between academia and industry, driving forward the R&D of innovative ML approaches.
- Participate in the full lifecycle of ML systems—from ideation to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Actively participate in system design, architecture discussions, and code reviews, ensuring production-grade standards and scalability.
- Support and mentor junior team members, helping to grow their technical capabilities and career paths.
- Ensure integration of ML pipelines within existing CI/CD workflows, in close collaboration with DevOps and Data Engineering teams.
Requirements:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience working in Machine Learning (or a balance of Computer Science and Machine Learning), with a strong foundation in Python.
- Proven experience working with LLMs and/or agentic frameworks in production or applied R&D settings.
- Solid understanding of the full ML lifecycle and how to bring models into production at scale.
- Strong software engineering skills: writing clean, modular, tested, and maintainable code.
- Comfort working with version control, CI/CD, containerization, and cloud platforms.
- Balance of theoretical ML knowledge and hands-on implementation.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with other technical teams and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

Location:
We’re based in Porto, Portugal. Although there is the possibility of remote working, we are only considering people located in Portugal.
