Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) seeks a skilled and proactive Senior Digital Platforms Specialist to oversee the technical, visual, and content management of the institution’s digital presence. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing NU-Q’s websites, while collaborating across teams and digital platforms to support integrated content, social media, and visual storytelling initiatives. This role requires a balance of creative content development, technical proficiency and collaborative execution within a dynamic academic environment.
Digital Platform & Website Management
Focus: Content publishing, CMS maintenance, and performance optimization
- Upload, edit, and maintain digital platforms in coordination with internal stakeholders and content creators.
- Perform regular backups and manage CMS updates, plugins, and theme patches to ensure site integrity and security.
- Monitor site speed, SEO health, and cross-browser/device compatibility; implement performance enhancements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues promptly to ensure uptime, responsiveness, and accessibility.
Focus: Data-driven insights, optimization, and compliance
- Analyze digital platform traffic and user behavior using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics); provide actionable insights and reports.
- Implement SEO best practices and ensure compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
- Support institutional campaigns, events, and digital storytelling initiatives through web-based enhancements and social media amplification.
Focus: Collaboration, systems integration, and vendor management
- Collaborate with the IT team on hosting infrastructure, manage DNS and domain registrations, and liaise with vendors as needed.
- Ensure all technical enhancements align with institutional goals, audience needs, and long-term sustainability.
Focus: Writing, editorial strategy, and cross-platform storytelling
- Research, write, and edit digital-first stories, captions, and posts for web and social media channels.
- Develop platform-specific copy that is concise, audience-driven, and aligned with NU-Q’s brand voice.
- Support coverage of live events, university initiatives, and campaigns through digital storytelling and real-time content.
- Collaborate with content writers, designers, and social media teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across platforms.
Focus: Graphic design, visual identity, and multimedia content creation
- Create compelling designs for web, social media, print collateral, reports, digital screens, event branding, and promotional materials.
- Design and optimize graphics and multimedia assets for web and social media integration, ensuring visual consistency and brand alignment.
- Collaborate on the creation of graphics, short videos, reels, stories, and interactive content.
- Ensure alignment with NU-Q’s brand guidelines and maintain visual consistency across departments and platforms.
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture.
- Participate in regular team meetings and workshops.
- Support documentation and shared resources to enhance knowledge retention.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Digital Media, Communications or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience in digital content management, web management or as a webmaster,
- ideally within a higher education or nonprofit environment.
- Proficiency in front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
- Basic-to-intermediate graphic design experience using tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva.
- Strong understanding of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with social media teams and contributing to integrated digital campaigns.
- Foundational knowledge of UX/UI principles and graphic content integration.
- Familiarity with SEO techniques, Google Analytics, and digital marketing tools.
- Understanding of website security protocols and performance optimization strategies.
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities and attention to technical and editorial detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Experience working within a structured editorial calendar or content governance framework.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience supporting content marketing campaigns with landing pages, microsites, or rich media components.
- Advanced knowledge of web accessibility compliance and legal standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1, GDPR).
- Experience with CRM and e-commerce integration (e.g., Slate, Salesforce, WooCommerce).
