As the Senior Web Developer at Cardinal Digital Marketing, you will guide entry-level and mid-level developers responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting client websites across our core Healthcare vertical. This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned developer with a deep technical foundation in WordPress, front-end, and back-end technologies, who is equally passionate about team mentorship, process optimization, and delivering exceptional client outcomes in a fast growing and dynamic agency environment. This role reports in the Director of Development.

You will be the primary escalation point for technical issues, drive technical innovation, facilitate training and development, and work cross-functionally with designers, project managers, and stakeholders to align deliverables with business objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Execution

  • Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress-based websites, themes, and plugins.
  • Integrate APIs, third-party tools, and custom functionality as needed.
  • Ensure clean, secure, and pixel-perfect code across front-end (HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript) and back-end (PHP, MySQL).
  • Oversee deployment processes, hosting environments, DNS, and security best practices.
  • Conduct testing, debugging, and optimization for site performance, SEO, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with hosting platforms and management - KINSTA preferred, but also platforms such as WP Engine.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and train developers through structured onboarding, code reviews, and ongoing skill development.
  • Assign and prioritize tickets/projects, track progress, and coach team members on quality and performance.
  • Uphold coding standards, workflow documentation, and QA best practices.
  • Provide regular feedback, performance reviews, and collaborate on career growth planning.

Strategic Collaboration & Department Leadership

  • Partner with Sales and Growth to ensure scopes are complete, accurate and well positioned for project success.
  • Partner with the Resources Manager to align team workload with company goals.
  • Partnering with Customer Service help lead sensitive and specific development client calls being the lead from the development team to customer needs, presentations and discussions
  • Represent the development team in cross-functional and client-facing meetings, including technical scoping.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and internal training initiatives.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, resource allocation, and process improvements.
  • Support agency leadership in project management, budget/resource oversight, and departmental communication.

Process Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery speed, codebase reliability, and automation.
  • Maintain and evolve SOPs, team documentation, and workflows.
  • Champion continuous improvement and innovative tools across the dev team.


Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of professional WordPress development (custom theme and plugin development).
  • 3+ years in a leadership, mentorship, or project lead role.
  • Expertise in HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL.
  • Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, usability, and accessibility standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in the Healthcare space and knowledge of HIPAA and compliance protocols
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and website performance optimization.
  • Experience with additional CMS platforms (Webflow and/or Drupal for example)
