The role

Zebra BI is looking for a forward-thinking, hands-on VP of Engineering to lead our engineering organization and shape the future of our products. This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader who wants full ownership of delivery, architecture, team development, and technical excellence—while working with a globally recognized product built in Slovenia.

You will be responsible for elevating execution, modernizing our platform, deepening our alignment with Microsoft (Power BI, Fabric, Azure), and building a world-class engineering culture that attracts and grows top talent. A deep experience in building SaaS products, growing high-performing engineering teams, and a passion for data and analytics are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the engineering organization end-to-end: roadmap delivery, people leadership, architecture, quality, and execution.
• Drive predictable delivery through clear processes, KPIs, and a strong engineering management system.
• Build and mentor a high-performing Engineering & QA team; foster ownership, excellence, and continuous learning.
• Lead architectural direction, ensuring scalability, reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
• Strengthen our Microsoft alignment (Power BI, Fabric, Azure) and represent Zebra BI in technical partnerships with Microsoft.
• Reduce technical debt through systematic modernization and continuous improvement.
• Partner closely with Product on planning, prioritization, dual-track discovery, and OKR alignment.
• Collaborate with Design, Sales, and Customer Success to ensure customer-driven innovation.
• Promote the adoption of modern engineering best practices, including secure SDLC, CI/CD, trunk-based development, automated testing, DORA/SPACE metrics, and AI-driven development.
• Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and enterprise standards (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO27001).
• Manage engineering budgets, resourcing, and strategic hiring to support scaling.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ in a senior engineering leadership role (SaaS environment preferred).
• Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams and delivering high-quality, enterprise-grade products.
• Strong technical foundation in cloud-native development, modern frameworks, and distributed systems.
• Experience building reliable, measurable engineering processes and improving delivery velocity and quality.
• Solid understanding of the Microsoft analytics ecosystem or the ability to quickly develop deep specialization (Power BI, Fabric, Azure).
• Experience with secure, compliant software development (SOC 2, GDPR, ISO27001).
• Strong communicator with the ability to align teams, manage stakeholders, and influence strategically.
• Able to balance hands-on technical involvement with high-level strategic direction.
• Passion for analytics, data visualization, and creating intuitive, intelligent software that users love.
• Fluent in English; Slovenian language a strong plus (though not required).
