What's this role about?
Product Management Skills
This role requires a deep understanding of product discovery, strategy, and delivery to maximize the value of the Store and POS systems.
1. Vision & Strategy Definition: Define and articulate a clear product vision and strategy for the store and POS ecosystem(aligned with the company's overall retail objectives and market trends)
2. Backlog Management: Create, manage, and continuously refine the product backlog (epics, features, user stories, bugs) for POS and store-related functionalities, prioritizing items based on business value, urgency, and customer needs.
3. Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with store operations, loss prevention, marketing, and finance teams to understand their needs, translating complex business requirements into clear, concise user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria along with ethical and responsible AI practices
4. Roadmapping and Release Planning: Develop and maintain a product roadmap that outlines key milestones and release plans, communicating updates to all stakeholders to manage expectations effectively.
5. User-Centric Design and Feedback: Act as the "voice of the customer" (store associate and end-user), gathering feedback through interviews, surveys, and testing to inform product improvements and ensure a user-friendly experience.
6. Data-driven Decision Making: Utilize analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) (e.g., transaction speed, uptime, user satisfaction, conversion rates) to make data-driven decisions on feature prioritization and product direction.
7. Domain Expertise: Possess in-depth knowledge of the retail industry, store operations, and POS systems, including current market trends and competitive solutions, to identify opportunities and potential threats.

5. Stakeholder Management & Negotiation: Skill in managing competing demands and conflicting interests from various stakeholders, effectively negotiating compromises that align with the product's maximum value delivery.
6. Accountability & Ownership: A strong sense of ownership for the product's success and outcomes, taking responsibility for the value delivered by the development team.
7. Customer Empathy: A genuine passion for understanding the needs and pain points of store associates and customers to advocate for the best possible solutions.
Technology Skills
While not expected to be a coder, the Product Owner needs sufficient technical acumen to engage effectively with the development team and understand system constraints.
1. Agile Methodologies: Deep working knowledge and experience with Agile frameworks, particularly Scrum and Kanban, including leading sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups. Work alongside AI agents and having knowledge of prompt engineering
2. POS & Retail Technology: Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) hardware/software, store fulfillment, inventory management systems, payment processing, e-commerce integrations, and general retail operational technology.
3. Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): A foundational understanding of the end-to-end software development lifecycle and relevant technical concepts (e.g., APIs, system architecture, testing practices, CI/CD).
4. Tools Proficiency: Experience using product backlog and project management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Trello to manage workflows and ensure transparency.
5. Data Analysis Tools: Ability to use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, application telemetry) to gather insights into product performance and user behavior.
6. UX/UI Fundamentals: Understanding of user experience (UX) principles to ensure the POS interface is intuitive and efficient for store users.
7. Technical Literacy: The ability to translate business language into technical requirements and vice versa, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical teams.
