Overview
The Network Engineer will play a key role in designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the organisation's local and wide area networks to ensure maximum availability and performance. This position requires strong technical expertise, hands-on experience, and excellent problem-solving skills. The successful candidate will oversee and maintain the operational effectiveness of the organisation's managed service provider (MSP) relationships.
Our WAN environment spans over 80 locations, including manufacturing facilities, data centres, office sites, and retail outlets.
Working closely with the network and security managed service providers, the Network Engineer will:
- Plan and execute the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of network equipment including switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Implement security policies and controls as defined by our security team.
- Maintain effective network services by diagnosing and resolving issues related to availability, utilisation, throughput, and latency.
- Maintain and optimise network infrastructure with a focus on redundancy, diversity, failover technologies, upgrades, and scalability.
- Monitor network performance and collaborate with network architects to enhance network design.
- Review SLAs and overall performance of the network managed service providers.
- Act as a technical specialist during network issues, incidents, and emergencies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations and topology.
- Ensure compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements; contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Work collaboratively with other IT teams and business stakeholders to support new initiatives and projects.
- Contribute to the strategic development of our central IT infrastructure.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in IT network support.
- Expert knowledge of WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice, and Network Security technologies.
- Hands-on experience in the configuration, implementation, and support of enterprise or manufacturing networks with multi-vendor solutions.
- Strong understanding of WAN/LAN design, IP networking, firewalls, switching, routing, wireless, and remote access technologies.
- Industry-recognised certifications (e.g., CCNP) preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with internal business customers.
- Proven experience working with managed service providers in an enterprise network environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
