About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our client’s enterprise network infrastructure. As the subject matter expert, you will act as the technical anchor for our team.
This role requires a veteran engineer with at least a decade of hands-on networking experience. You will live and breathe the Fortinet ecosystem—managing high-availability clusters, deploying SD-WAN solutions, and ensuring our client’s security posture is impenetrable.
Key Responsibilities
- Fortinet Ecosystem Management: Lead the configuration, deployment, and management of FortiGate Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), FortiSwitches, and FortiAPs in a distributed environment.
- Network Architecture: Design and optimize complex LAN/WAN/SD-WAN infrastructures to ensure high availability, redundancy, and low latency.
- Security Policy: maintain strict security policies, VPN configurations (IPsec/SSL), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS).
- Alert Monitoring: Experience with FortiSIEM and FortiSOAR
- Centralized Management: Utilize FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer for centralized provisioning, logging, and reporting.
- Vulnerability Management: Utilize Tenable and Sophos EDR for scanning.
- Advanced Routing: Manage complex routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and VLAN segmentations.
- Tier-3 Troubleshooting: act as the final point of escalation for complex network incidents, performing deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA).
- Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level network administrators.
- Incident Management: Review alerts to separate false positives from real threats (as discussed in your previous question).
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in Network Engineering, with at least 5 years dedicated to Fortinet environments, including FortiSIEM and FortiSOAR.
- Certification: Fortinet NSE 4 (Network Security Professional) or equivalent FCP (Fortinet Certified Professional) is strictly required.
- Technical Mastery:
- Deep expertise in FortiOS (firmware upgrades, CLI troubleshooting, and debug commands).
- Strong grasp of SD-WAN implementation and management.
- Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, STP, ARP, DNS, and DHCP.
- Hardware Knowledge: Experience racking, stacking, and configuring physical appliances (60F up to 1000+ series gates).
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Advanced Certifications: NSE 7 (Network Security Architect) or NSE 8 (Network Security Expert).
- Cloud Networking: Experience connecting on-premise Fortinet gear to Cloud environments (Azure/AWS/Google Cloud).
- Legacy/Mixed Environments: Experience migrating from Cisco, Juniper, or Palo Alto to Fortinet solutions.
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to assist the Account Manager with sales support.
- Meticulous documentation habits (maintaining topologies and runbooks).
- Grace under pressure during network outages or security incidents.
- On-site work is a necessity
Benefits
- Competitive Salary based on experience.
- Paid certification renewal and training budget
- Remote/Hybrid work options (BC residents only).
