Network Engineer

12-month Freelance Network Architect | Financial Sector | Infrastructure & Security | Frankfurt / Hybrid

Our client is a leading, internationally active provider of network, cloud, and cybersecurity solutions for the financial services and insurance industry. Headquartered in Frankfurt, the company employs several hundred specialists across Germany and supports major banks, insurance groups, and fintech organisations in designing and operating highly secure, compliant, and scalable IT infrastructures. Their portfolio spans network architecture, secure connectivity, regulated cloud environments, and managed security services tailored to the needs of financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and optimise highly available network infrastructures (LAN/WAN/WLAN, SD-WAN, VPN) for financial-sector clients, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., BaFin, ISO 27001)
• Analyse complex network environments, identify performance or security gaps, and define strategic architecture roadmaps
• Lead implementation and migration projects, including configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and secure remote access solutions
• Develop detailed network documentation, including LLD/HLD, security concepts, and infrastructure blueprints
• Collaborate closely with cloud, security, and data-centre teams to ensure seamless integration within hybrid and multi-cloud landscapes
• Act as a trusted technical advisor for clients, supporting project managers and stakeholders in key architectural decisions

What You Bring

• Completed vocational training or degree in IT, network engineering, or a related field
• Expertise with Cisco networking technologies (enterprise routing & switching)
• Solid understanding of firewall concepts using Palo Alto Networks solutions
• Experience with VMware SD-WAN for software-defined networking architectures
• Knowledge of cloud networking principles in Microsoft Azure
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and documentation standards in the financial sector
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a structured, solution-oriented, and client-focused working style
• Very good German skills and good command of English, both written and spoken
