This role is based in the DroneShield office in Sydney CBD. Droneshield has approximately 400 staff based within its Sydney headquarters and is scheduled to grow to 500 staff in Australia by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.

About The Role

The company is seeking a strong Backend Engineer with relevant experience to join the development team in Sydney.

The role is primarily focused on the development of DroneShield product DroneSentry-C2.

Responsibilities, Duties And Expectations

  • Contribute to the development of our C2 product to meet the demanding operational requirements in real-world deployments aligned to the long-term product vision
  • Design and develop features from conceptualisation to realisation working closely with the global software engineering team

Qualifications, Experience And Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • More than 3 years’ experience in software development
  • Design and implement Golang microservices for sensor ingestion, decoding, fusion, and event streaming (or relevant typed languages like C++/Rust)
  • Experience working with two or more from the following: distributed and parallel systems, Unix/Linux environments, web application development, developing large software systems, and/or security software development
  • Experience developing microservices infrastructure is ideal
  • Familiar with Docker, Postman, GitLab, AWS is favourable.
  • You are experienced working with modern infrastructure and tools
  • You are comfortable running your software in Linux environments
  • You know and care about sound engineering practices like continuous delivery, defensive programming and automated testing
  • You’re familiar with designing and building distributed and scalable systems
  • An abundance of ambition and motivation to grow the company and compete with the big players in the industry
