Full-timeRemote FriendlyEngineering, Information Technology

Welcome to GScan 👋, we're pioneering the future of non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring with the most advanced technology on the market. Using cosmic rays (muons), our muonFLUX© system can see inside critical infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels, and buildings—detecting issues like corrosion and other hidden defects with unprecedented clarity.

Our groundbreaking technology is the only solution capable of detecting particles that pass through every material, including concrete and steel with dimensions more than 5 meters, producing highly accurate 3D models that deliver 30x greater accuracy than industry standards. For the first time, asset owners can make proactive, data-driven decisions to maintain their infrastructure in safer, more cost-effective, and sustainable ways. Here's a video explanation.

🔹 Office locations: Tõrvandi (Tartumaa) and Tallinn (Tehnopol business area).

🔹 Work arrangement: Hybrid — you can work from either office and partly remote.

🔹 Job type: Full-time.

What are we looking for?

As we're making strong progress in bringing our products to the market, we are looking for a talented and motivated Data Scientist / AI Engineer to join our ML/AI team and help us push the boundaries of what's possible. You’ll play a key role in developing and deploying AI-driven solutions in muon tomography, where your expertise will unlock the full potential of our cutting-edge hardware. If you enjoy solving complex puzzles and driving innovation from research to production, you’ll fit right in.

What makes working at GScan unique?

🌍 An opportunity to change the world & shape industry standards. Work with real global innovation and technological breakthroughs where a significant amount of decisions have not been made yet.

💼 High-Impact Projects: Work on revolutionary solutions aimed at transforming the inspection and maintenance of critical infrastructure.

💡 Solve complex technical challenges. Collaborate with a team of talented Software, AI, Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, Physicists, Mathematicians to refine how scanning is applied in real projects.

💥 Create real impact. Help stakeholders of built world management to prevent failure, reduce costs, and dramatically cut CO₂ emissions.

🤝 Grow with purpose. Join a mission-driven deep tech start-up during an exciting early (yet not too early) stage. Our team has grown to 50+ talents, and we have successfully raised 6mln+ seed investments (supported by 12mln+ in grants).

🤍 International and diverse work environment. GScan is an equal-opportunity employer and values diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.

✅Key Responsibilities

  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) on complex scanner data to uncover patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Experiment with both established and unconventional DS/ML approaches, proposing out-of-the-box ideas and testing them
  • Go deep into challenging problems: iteratively refine hypotheses, test assumptions, and push for a thorough understanding of the data and models
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to best practices and coding standards
  • Participate in code reviews, actively giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Communicate your findings and reasoning to team members and stakeholders in a concise, structured way

💻 Tech stack 💻 Python, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, NumPy, CUDA, etc.

Who will you be working with? A team of 5 AI/ML Engineers, 4 Software Engineers, CTO, Physicists, Electronics, etc.

✅Qualifications

Nobody is perfect, and we don't expect you to be either. You're likely to succeed if you meet 5 out of 7 criteria:

  1. Strong background in mathematics and statistics (e.g. probability theory, statistical inference, linear algebra, geometry)
  2. Ability to quickly grasp new concepts, tools, and domains, and apply them in practice
  3. Solid understanding of data analysis and machine learning fundamentals
  4. Experience in designing custom ML architectures to solve specific problems
  5. Hands-on experience with Python for data work (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib/Plotly, scikit-learn or similar)
  6. Curiosity and willingness to explore unconventional and creative approaches
  7. Comfortable reading, understanding, and extending other people’s code; basic software engineering practices (version control, testing)

It would be beneficial if you're interested in 2 topics out of 5 (Inverse problems, Unsupervised Physics Informed ML, Hardware, Physics, Electronics).

Join GScan and help shape the future of scanning technology. Together, we can make a real difference. 🤝

We are waiting to hear from you!
