About The Team
The Analytics Platform product area (APPA) is dedicated to empowering every internal user to rapidly make data-driven decisions backed by high-quality insights.
Sequel is the team responsible for the tooling and best practices around transforming raw data to consumable analytics through SQL. The team owns the BigQueryRunner (BQR) tool, in-house built, and provides platform support for working with dbt.
The customers of the team are primarily Analytics Engineers (AEs) and Data Scientists (DSs), and with the focus on T-shaping we are also seeing Engineers increasingly adopting the tools the team offers.
The team is tasked with the following:
- Maintain the healthy operation of the fleet of scheduled SQL pipelines to ensure proper version management, cost efficiency, security.
- Keep the tools relevant and useful through bugs fixing and new features implementation.
- Support teams that need to migrate their pipelines from non-golden technologies to dbt by building the expected automations and assistance.
- Help manage the fleet of dbt: ensure undisrupted operations (scheduling and execution), up-to-date functionalities and features.
- Help deliver an AI-assisted migration from BigQueryRunner (in-house SQL transformation and scheduling tool) to dbt, powered by Honk, client's agentic coding system.
- Contribute to building data verification loops (tests, lineage, contract checks) that enable agentic and safe migration from BQ Runner to dbt, as well as other changes to data pipelines.
- Help explore open-source and commercial SQL transformation options, as alternatives to dbt-core and perform light-weight technical evaluations and prototyping.
Skills
- Fluent in Python, bash scripting, (Java)
- Deep knowledge of the modern analytics data stack (SQL, dbt or other tooling for data pipelines).
- Deep and multi-year knowledge of SQL-like languages and data warehouses like BigQuery.
- Experience with employing AI code assistants to increase own efficiency.
- Familiar with the principles of AI engineering (building products on top of foundational models)
- Hands on experience with agentic systems is a huge plus.
- Bias for action, ability to keep a high delivery pace and energy.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in distributed teams.
- Able to self-initiate and work in a high-ambiguity environment where understanding and shaping the direction is expected.
