Job Role Overview
As a Drilling Engineer at Horizon56, you will be based in Stavanger, Norway and be part of the product team who is responsible for enhancing the value of our software solutions to our customers. You will coordinate and collaborate with other product team members such as UI/UX Designers and serve as a liaison to other departments within Horizon56. A significant aspect of this role involves researching and scoping new features, this is where your domain knowledge will be highly valuable. Additionally, your planning skills that you have learned as an Engineer will be utilized to manage the delivery process from initial research to the handover of detailed designs to our development team. Engaging with customers is also an important part of this role, this will provide you with exciting opportunities to expand your network and collaborate with industry peers.
As we are a global company, we also provide opportunities for those willing to travel, this could involve coordinating directly with customers face to face, brainstorming and product scoping workshops or attending conferences or seminars.
Additionally, this role will allow you to develop new skills and knowledge relating to software development and digitalization, something that will become more and more prominent in the oil and gas sector and cross transferrable to other industries.
Primary Responsibilities
- Researching and helping to scope products and features
- Collaborating and managing other Horizon56 team members including setting goals and objectives and offering support and input when needed.
- Coordinating directly with our customers
- Assist in evaluating that development work has been completed according to specification and is fit for operational usage.
- Become familiar and stay updated with the Horizon56 long-term roadmap and vision and offer suggestions and input on potential additions.
- Be active in the collection and processing of customer feedback.
- Being part of the planning team to manage the process of prioritization of work for both the product and development team.
- Assist in the writing of documentation that will be handed over to the development team and training department that describes feature functionality and operational usage
In addition to your main duties, you will be trained on Horizon56's systems and processes and become familiar with software development methods. This training will be part of our on-the-job coaching.
Required qualifications and experience
For this role, we require Drilling Engineers with the following attributes:
Technical Expertise:
Strong understanding of drilling engineering principles.
Experience with drilling software such as Landmark, WellView, DrillPlan or similar platforms.
General knowledge of directional drilling, plug and abandon, completion and intervention techniques.
Industry Experience:
Minimum 4 years of experience in a drilling engineering type role (could be onshore planning and/or rig site Engineer)
A good understanding of the requirements and dependencies of the operator, Drilling Contractor and Service providers in the well construction process
General Competencies:
Proactive decision-making.
Effective time management and prioritization skills.
Commitment to continuous learning
Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Working Location
This job requires the employee to work from the office location provided by Horizon56 in Stavanger. This will involve commuting to the office on a regular basis. It is important to note that the ability to work remotely or from a different location is not ruled out, but it is not the primary preference for this job. The purpose of this preference is to enhance and promote collaboration with core product and development team members.
Additionally, and as stated previously, there may be requests for the employee to travel to other locations for business purposes. It is the intention of Horizon56 to respect the employees’ personal commitments and responsibilities when requesting such travel and always derive to a mutual arrangement that suits all parties involved.
