We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team.

The Position

As an Engineering Manager at HappyCo, you will create the conditions for your team of Product Engineers to do their best work — where engineers feel supported, trusted, and empowered to deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers. You will lead and mentor engineers, fostering a culture of transparency, ownership, and continuous learning that helps the team grow.

You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Designers and your peers in Engineering Leadership to enable your team to discover and build solutions that solve customers’ problems, meet our usability standards, are feasible to build, and are viable for our business.

With a focus on transparency and collaboration, you will ensure your team understands the customer problems they are solving and feels confident to ship value early and often. You’ll help your team celebrate success, learn from feedback, and continuously improve how they work together. From refining delivery practices to navigating technical challenges, you will guide the engineering team to do high-quality work that supports the evolution of our product and technology roadmap.

What You’ll Do

  • Coach & Develop: Support the growth of your team by providing regular feedback and advice, and championing their well being and growth
  • Discover, Deliver & Support Enablement: Ensure your team is supported to rapidly discover, build, and deliver product to customers with all team members having a clear understanding of product outcomes
  • Enable High-Quality Delivery: Guide teams through effective delivery, including guiding team process, removing blockers and ambiguity, and supporting effective estimation and work break-down
  • Risk Management: Ensure team risks are effectively managed, understood and escalated appropriately
  • Alignment and Collaboration: Partner with Product and Design to shape solutions that are valuable, usable, feasible and viable. Foster a culture of transparency and collaboration between teams, ensuring dependencies between teams are understood
  • Organise & Manage: Maintain suitably staffed teams with the right people in the right seats, and manage recruitment for your teams as required


What We Think You Need To Be Successful

  • 2+ years of people leadership or technical delivery leadership in software development environments
  • 5+ years experience in digital, SaaS or engineering roles
  • Proven ability to support performance and growth through coaching and structured development
  • Experience hiring and nurturing talent across a range of experience levels
  • A hands-on approach to technical and people management with experience in both building high quality products and guiding engineers through technical challenges
  • Practical understanding of modern engineering practices
  • Strong communication skills with the proven ability to build trust and alignment across teams
  • Comfort operating in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities
  • A balanced approach to quality, speed and customer value


Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience leading high-performing teams in a SaaS product environment
  • Familiarity with our technologies (React, Go, Dart, GraphQL)
  • Experience working directly with customers or advocates to deepen product understanding
  • Ability to mentor engineers in customer empathy and product thinking
  • Experience adapting delivery processes to match product maturity and stage
