About The Role
The Selling team at Whatnot is dedicated to creating seamless, end-to-end experiences for listings, enabling sellers to effectively merchandise their inventory across various sales channels and formats. This role focuses on enhancing the core features that drive engagement and revenue, such as live auctions, "Buy It Now" options, and special formats like trading card breaks. The Purchase Experience (XP) subteam is tasked with developing innovative mechanisms for transactions, aiming to add value and foster social, fun interactions for buyers and sellers alike. As a Fullstack Engineer within this team, you will play a vital role in improving the performance and user experience of formats like the Breaks feature, reimagining auction dynamics, and ensuring consistency across platforms. Your work will involve collaborating across teams, leveraging modern technologies such as Apollo, Next.js, Python, and Elixir to deliver high-quality, performant features that delight users and support business growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of generalist software development experience, preferably in high-growth startup environments.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with a focus on Python, Elixir, and JavaScript.
- Experience with web development frameworks such as React and GraphQL for API development.
- Exposure to modern frontend frameworks like Next.js is a plus.
- Strong product instincts, prioritizing user experience and usability in design and development.
- Ability to mentor team members and foster an inclusive, collaborative environment.
- Proven project ownership skills, from conception through deployment and iteration.
- Track record of shipping features rapidly and efficiently.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to operate independently.
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new technologies and tools.
- Enhance the Breaks experience by improving performance and user engagement.
- Innovate within auction formats to make bidding more dynamic, engaging, and rewarding.
- Build and maintain feature consistency across mobile and web platforms.
- Provide data insights to help sellers identify high-performing listings and optimize opportunities.
- Implement deeper telemetry and analytics to monitor livestream and auction flows for continuous improvement.
- Utilize modern technologies such as Apollo, Next.js, Python, and Elixir to develop scalable, high-quality features.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to deliver impactful solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure code quality and maintainability.
- Actively contribute to the team’s technical growth and knowledge sharing.
