As Project QHSE Manager, you are responsible to plan, lead, and manage all Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) activities at the mine site, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, minimizing operational risks, and fostering a proactive safety culture to achieve zero harm to people, property, and the environment.


Responsibilities:

  1. QHSE Leadership & Strategy
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific QHSE policies and procedures in line with corporate standards and mining regulations.
  • Lead the QHSE team and provide direction to supervisors and line management to ensure safety objectives are met.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership, engagement, and communication across all levels.
  1. Risk & Compliance Management
  • Ensure compliance with local and international mining safety legislation and standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site risk assessments.
  • Oversee the management of contractors and subcontractors to ensure adherence to site QHSE standards.
  1. Incident & Emergency Management
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintain and periodically test emergency response and mine rescue procedures, including drills and simulations.
  1. Safety Training & Competence
  • Develop and coordinate QHSE training programs for all levels of the workforce (including induction, job-specific, and refresher training).
  • Ensure supervisors and workers are competent in mine-specific hazards (blasting, confined space, heavy equipment, pit safety, dust, etc.).
  1. Auditing, Monitoring & Reporting
  • Conduct and coordinate internal and external QHSE audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Track performance trends and report monthly QHSE statistics and analysis to management.
  • Recommend continuous improvement initiatives based on audit and inspection outcomes.
  1. Environmental & Sustainability Management
  • Monitor and control environmental aspects such as dust, noise, water quality, tailings management, and waste disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and mine closure requirements.
  • Promote sustainable practices and resource conservation on-site.


Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, or related field.
  2. NEBOSH International Diploma / OSHA Certification or equivalent.
  3. Minimum 8 – 10 years of QHSE experience, with at least 5 years in a mining environment.
  4. Strong knowledge of mining safety laws, environmental standards, and emergency response protocols.
  5. Excellent leadership, investigation, and reporting skills.
  6. Experience in managing multicultural workforces and remote site operations.
