Job Summary

H5P Group is a fast-growing software provider. We help improve the lives of people all around the world by empowering educators to create better e-learning content faster. Our award-winning software is called H5P, which has grown to become one of the most widely used Ed-tech solutions in the world. Our team and organization are expanding, and we are excited to welcome a new Release Manager (internally referred to as Service Operations Manager). This role opens up as our current manager steps into new responsibilities within the company—creating an opportunity for you to make a big impact and shape the future of our Service operations.

As our new Release Manager at H5P Group, you will be at the center of delivering robust, scalable software that powers interactive learning for millions worldwide. You will collaborate with developers, QA engineers, designers, and product managers to ensure smooth releases and exceptional reliability.

Please note this is a hybrid position based out of our office in either Tromsø or Oslo.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Own the release pipeline: Manage deployments and optimize CI/CD processes for speed and stability.
  • Manage software upgrades and releases: plan, execute, and document releases across multiple platforms, conduct practice releases and rollbacks, maintain release logs, and ensure smooth recovery when needed.
  • Champion quality: drive automated and manual testing strategies, including regression and post-release testing, to maintain high standards
  • Release preparation & QA: Review release components during staging, perform diffs to detect unexpected changes, flag undocumented configuration changes, and check for required infrastructure updates.
  • Release notes: Create and distribute monthly release notes to communicate changes and updates clearly.
  • Infrastructure tasks: Accountable for end-to-end AWS infrastructure operations, encompassing patch application, cost oversight, and performance target setting.
  • Solve complex challenges: Provide third-level technical support for critical issues and guide root-cause analysis.
  • Continuous improvement: report on progress, improve internal processes, and develop monitoring tools and dashboards.

What You'll Bring To The Role

  • Educational Background: Degree in Computer Science (or a related field) or an equivalent of experience/training in a relevant industry to ours.
  • Release Management Expertise: Extensive experience leading and overseeing complex software release cycles across multiple platforms. This includes strategic planning, execution, risk mitigation, documentation, and rollback strategies for high-impact environments.
  • CI/CD & Quality Assurance: Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and regression/post-release testing to ensure high-quality deployments.
  • Cloud & Automation Expertise: Strong experience with AWS infrastructure management and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Cloudformation, AWS CDK or Terraform. Ability to independently handle infrastructure automation and implement best practices for reliability and scalability.
  • Problem-Solving & Support: Strong troubleshooting skills for third-level technical support and root-cause analysis of critical issues.
  • Observability & Performance Monitoring: Skilled in developing monitoring tools and dashboards, tracking AWS costs, and setting performance targets.
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated ability to improve internal processes, maintain release logs, and ensure compliance with best practices.
  • Communication & Documentation: Proven experience creating clear and comprehensive release notes, maintaining accurate documentation, and reporting progress effectively handling these tasks consistently over time and in complex scenarios.
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate permanently to Tromsø or Oslo (Norway); potential travel between offices for onboarding and workshops. You will have the opportunity to work with great colleagues in a pleasant and modern office, centrally situated in Oslo or Tromsø.
  • Please Note: The position requires a clean criminal record, relevant candidates must submit documentation of this.

We also value if you have (but not a requirement):

  • Familiarity with PHP, Node.js, and web technologies to troubleshoot and support real-time application environments.
  • Prior experience with H5P.
  • Engineering & Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead technically complex initiatives while managing and growing high-performing teams. Experience recruiting, mentoring, and guiding engineers, combined with hands-on involvement in infrastructure, automation, and release processes.
