Job Title: Senor Nortel Engineer
Location: Fully Remote with an option to work onsite if desired – (remote from Ireland only – occasional visit onsite when required)
Position Type: Full-Time daily Rate Contract
Contract length: 12 months (Multiple extensions likely)
Working hours: 9AM - 5PM with option to take a 3 or a 5 day per week contract
About the Role:
Our client, an established communications solutions provider, specialising in telephone PBX solutions for multinational companies is seeking an experienced Nortel Engineer to join their team on a full-time contract basis (possibility of offering the role on a permanent basis)
This fully remote role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team while supporting and maintaining legacy Nortel infrastructure for multiple different clients across a variety of domains. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Nortel hardware and software systems, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting, configuring, and maintaining Nortel Networks infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, configure, and troubleshoot Nortel Networks infrastructure, including switches, routers, and other network equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network issues within Nortel systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining network stability.
- Provide remote support for network configurations, upgrades, and migrations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure seamless network operations.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for network configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Perform regular system performance assessments, identifying opportunities for optimization and upgrades within the legacy Nortel environment.
- Implement best practices for network security, reliability, and efficiency.
- Assist in network transition projects, including any potential migrations from Nortel to newer infrastructure.
- Respond to network incidents and outages, providing expertise and rapid solutions to restore services.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience working specifically with Nortel Networks equipment and systems.
- Experience in network engineering, with a strong understanding of Nortel hardware (such as Passport, BayStack, and BCM series).
- Experience working with Nortel Option 61/81/CS1000 systems
- Proficiency in network troubleshooting, with hands-on expertise in resolving Nortel-specific issues.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, such as TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, and VLAN configurations.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with remote teams and provide clear technical guidance.
- Ability to work independently, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Familiarity with VoIP systems and Nortel’s communication solutions is a plus.
Nice to have:
- Certifications in networking, particularly Nortel Networks Certified Design Specialist (NNCDS) or Nortel Networks Certified Support Specialist (NNCSS) are a plus
- Experience working with Microsoft or Avaya systems
