Principal Android Engineer | London Hybrid | Up to £125,000 + Benefits

We’re supporting a major UK financial services organisation in their search for a Principal Android Engineer to play a key role in shaping the future of their mobile customer experience. This is an opportunity to join a highly reputable institution as they continue a large-scale digital transformation, driving modern engineering practices and delivering high-performing, secure mobile applications used by millions.

The Role

As a Principal Engineer, you’ll design and engineer software with customer and user experience at the forefront. You’ll lead complex technical initiatives, define key architectural components, and guide multiple feature teams to ensure their technical delivery aligns with broader strategic goals.

Working alongside senior architects, engineers and product stakeholders, you’ll develop innovative, resilient and scalable mobile solutions while influencing the direction of the wider technology landscape.

You will also be responsible for:

• Defining and governing engineering and design solutions focused on automation, performance, scalability, resilience and security
• Designing and engineering complex software, tools and scripts within a feature or platform team
• Developing architecture models and roadmaps to meet business and technical requirements
• Driving common engineering standards and influencing technology strategy at both domain and enterprise levels

Skills & Experience Required

You’ll bring extensive experience in Android engineering, software design and architecture, ideally within large-scale or highly regulated environments. You should have strong capability working in Agile and DevOps-driven teams, with a track record of championing engineering best practice.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Strong experience building Android applications using Kotlin, Java, and Jetpack Compose
• Proven background in test-driven development, automated testing frameworks, mocking/stubbing and performance optimisation
• Experience leading and supporting engineering teams in a matrix or cross-functional structure
• Ability to translate complex business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Familiarity with Git-based repositories, CI/CD tooling and modern engineering workflows
