Join an exciting project to bring financial literacy to students through an interactive web tool, The Compound Regret Calculator. This role focuses on developing the backend logic and API integration for a fintech education site aimed at high school and college students. The main objective is to process user input—recurring expenses like streaming subscriptions—and calculate both total spend and hypothetical investment growth, presenting results on a dashboard with clear visuals and concise AI-generated explanations. The Framer landing page is already designed, so your primary responsibility is to implement the backend, connect it to the Framer frontend, and ensure seamless data flow and user experience. You will leverage tools such as Node.js or Python for backend development, OpenAI API for generating explanations, and a JavaScript charting library for data visualization. The project is straightforward, with no need for authentication or handling sensitive financial data, focusing solely on educational calculations and narrative output.

Deliverables

  • Develop backend logic to process user input and calculate spending and investment growth scenarios.
  • Integrate OpenAI API to generate short, educational explanations based on user data.
  • Build and connect a serverless or lightweight backend (e.g., Vercel, Netlify) to the Framer-designed frontend.
  • Implement a user input form and results dashboard, returning data and AI-generated text to the frontend.
  • Create clear, visually engaging charts using a JavaScript charting library.
  • Ensure the application is reliable, responsive, and easy to use for students.
  • Provide basic documentation for backend setup and API endpoints.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in backend development using Node.js or Python.
  • Experience with API integration, especially OpenAI or similar AI text generation services.
  • Familiarity with serverless deployment platforms such as Vercel or Netlify.
  • Ability to implement and connect frontend forms to backend logic (Framer experience a plus, but not required).
  • Knowledge of JavaScript charting libraries (e.g., Chart.js, D3.js) for data visualization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and document your work.
  • Availability for a short-term, single-project engagement.
  • Interest in fintech or educational technology is a plus.
