Join ASML’s AI and Machine Learning team in Veldhoven, where we explore cutting-edge technologies to improve semiconductor manufacturing. Our machines print nanometer-scale patterns on silicon wafers, requiring precise calibration and diagnostics. Vision-language models (LVMs) have the potential to assist experts in these tasks, but they often lack domain-specific understanding. This internship focuses on bridging that gap by creating benchmarks and datasets tailored to ASML’s diagnostic context.
Your assignment
You will design and implement a benchmarking framework for evaluating vision-language models on ASML-specific tasks. This includes curating multimodal datasets and developing evaluation pipelines to measure model performance against human-level standards.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Collect and organize technical documents and visual data from internal and public sources.
- Design and implement a semi-automated pipeline for dataset annotation.
- Create benchmark tasks for multimodal understanding in diagnostic scenarios.
- Evaluate state-of-the-art vision-language models using established metrics.
- Analyze performance gaps and propose improvements for domain-specific applications.
- Document your methodology and results in a clear, reproducible format.
- Present findings to stakeholders and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
- Are enrolled in a master’s degree in data science, artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related field.
- Have experience with large language models and prompt engineering.
- Are proficient in Python; familiarity with MATLAB and databricks is a plus.
- Understand multimodal datasets and benchmarking tools (e.g., Hugging Face).
- Bring strong analytical thinking, are able to work independently, and a proactive mindset.
- You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
- Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
