Salt is currently looking for a HR Generalist for a client of ours in Amsterdam.


The role is freelance(kvk/zzp requirement), hybrid(in Amsterdam twice a week) and is paying around 70 euros an hour.


The HR Generalist provides operational HR support to one or multiple functions or locations, partnering closely with HR Business Partners to deliver day-to-day people processes. This role helps implement HR strategies, products, and services while serving as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the HR Business Partner to deliver people initiatives within the function or location, offering high-quality operational support and guidance on HR matters.
  • Provide accurate, relevant, and jurisdiction-appropriate advice on HR legislation, policies, and best practices.
  • Manage a variety of employee-relations processes, including investigations, disciplinary procedures, recruitment, onboarding, and talent management.
  • Support the delivery of the function’s people plan—for example: performance calibration, talent reviews, training, and development initiatives.
  • Assist HR Business Partners with employee relations cases such as absence management, performance concerns, disciplinary procedures, and case outcomes.
  • Coach and advise managers on people practices, ensuring they understand, own, and execute their managerial responsibilities effectively.
  • Serve as a second-line escalation point for queries unresolved by first-line HR support, reviewing historical context, identifying patterns, and proposing solutions. Develop recommendations where no policy exists and collaborate with Centres of Excellence or HR Operations as needed.
  • Proactively identify people trends and issues, working with stakeholders to develop and implement pragmatic, business-aligned solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with HR Operations, HR Services, and HR Centres of Excellence to ensure alignment and consistency in processes, policy application, and business changes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant employment legislation, suggesting improvements and updates to internal policies and processes.
  • Contribute to HR projects and initiatives, offering insights, recommendations, and support as needed.

Qualifications & Experience (1–3 years)

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of employee legislation and HR policy within the relevant function and/or region.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, with excellent communication skills and experience engaging diverse stakeholder groups.
  • A degree in Human Resources or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency with HR technologies and systems, such as Workday (or similar).
