Our team is growing, and we are now looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our skilled and collaborative engineering team in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki.

👀 What Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a senior-level developer with deep experience in backend technologies. Someone who thrives in a modern cloud environment and enjoys owning solutions from architecture to deployment.

In this role, strong expertise in PHP, Node.js, and containerized environments (Docker) is essential. Experience with SQL, NoSQL, and specifically MongoDB will help you hit the ground running.

We also value developers who understand infrastructure and architecture, write clear documentation, and feel comfortable working in an Agile setup (Jira, Confluence).

✅ Core Responsibilities

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will:

• Build and improve the backend for our core products: EWQ Queue Management, Digital Signage, and Electronic Shelf Labels
• Take ownership of backend architecture and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions
• Work closely with a highly experienced backend developer to shape solutions and drive shared technical direction, while collaborating seamlessly with the entire development team
• Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to design smart, reliable integrations
• Join customer workshops to turn real-world needs into robust technical solutions
• Create clear technical documentation and contribute to a smooth Agile workflow
• Help shape our backend technologies and development practices moving forward
• Leverage AI tools to boost development efficiency - previous AI experience is a bonus, and curiosity to learn is highly appreciated

🥇 Ideal Candidate

You will thrive in this role if you have:

• At least 5 years of professional experience in backend development
• Strong professional experience in PHP development
• Solid experience with Node.js
• Hands-on expertise with Docker and containerized workflows
• Good understanding of backend infrastructure and software architecture
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, especially MongoDB
• Familiarity with Agile development (Jira, Confluence) and strong documentation skills
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with customers
• Professional proficiency in English; Finnish and/or Swedish are a strong advantage (as well as other Nordic languages)

Additionally, it’s a plus if you have practical experience with the ELK stack for monitoring, as well as a background working with message queues, microservice architectures, or event-driven systems. You work independently, solve problems proactively, and enjoy learning new things. You want your work to have a visible impact.
