About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Java Developer to join a dynamic and rapidly expanding technology provider. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative engineering team focused on designing and implementing high-availability, mission-critical backend systems for the telecommunications sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing scalable, secure, and efficient backend services that support global telecom operations. This position is based in Guildford with a hybrid working model, providing the flexibility of remote work combined with in-office collaboration.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of four years' hands-on experience in backend Java development, demonstrating proficiency in building and maintaining complex microservice architectures. A strong understanding of RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and networking fundamentals is essential. Experience working within cloud environments such as AWS or GCP, along with containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid background in database management, including both SQL and NoSQL technologies, and familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ. Excellent communication skills, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are critical for success in this role. A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robust backend services and microservices using Java, ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, frontend developers, and network engineers to deliver comprehensive telecom solutions.
• Optimize system performance by integrating databases, APIs, and other components, focusing on efficiency and reliability.
• Implement system redundancy, security measures, and performance tuning to meet the stringent requirements of telecom operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues within distributed systems and live client environments, maintaining high system availability.
• Participate actively in Agile development processes, including code reviews, sprint planning, and continuous integration/delivery practices.
• Contribute to documentation, testing, and deployment processes to ensure quality and consistency across the development lifecycle.
