Senior Network Engineer (4-Month Contract – Immediate Start)

A major national retail organisation with 350+ stores across Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer for an initial 4-month contract, with an immediate start. This role is ideal for someone who can quickly step into a busy environment and provide technical leadership across a large-scale, distributed network.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead and manage the network landscape across national retail stores, distribution centres, and corporate sites.
• Provide senior-level operational support for all network, security, and wireless infrastructure, ensuring availability, performance, and rapid issue resolution.
• Oversee the rollout, installation, and configuration of new network equipment and store technologies, meeting tight operational timelines.
• Take ownership of complex incidents, perform detailed root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes.
• Support key IT projects including network upgrades, security uplifts, WAN improvements, and infrastructure refresh initiatives.
• Review emerging technologies, recommend improvements, and contribute to overall network strategy during the contract period.

What You Bring

• Relevant IT qualification or equivalent industry experience.
• 5–7+ years’ experience in senior-level networking roles, ideally across multi-site or retail environments.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Cisco routers, switches, wireless, and Fortinet firewalls (FortiGate).
• Deep understanding of VPN technologies, secure remote access, routing protocols, and network security principles.
• Proven ability to operate autonomously, handle high-pressure environments, and resolve issues quickly and logically.
• Current or previously held CCNA / CCNP (or similar certifications) highly desirable.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to confidently engage technical and operational stakeholders.
• A proactive, team-oriented attitude with resilience, flexibility and a strong work ethic.
