Are you interested in building highly scalable and performant systems capable of powering millions of transactions? Do you enjoy being part of a fast-paced development team? If so, you could be the Senior Backend Engineer that Beep Technologies is looking for!

Beep is a fast-growing, venture-backed start-up building universal automation platforms for the Internet of Things (IoT). Headquartered in Singapore, we help power millions of transactions across the ASEAN region.

Across the unattended retail & eMobility markets, our platform:

  • Records over 1.5 million monthly transactions in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines through Vending Machines, supporting over 30 payment wallets across Southeast Asia
  • Helped distribute over 30 million masks through the Singapore Government & Temasek's StayMasked campaigns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTsLey7PjaM)
  • Powers VoltNet, SEA's first and largest eRoaming platform for Electric Vehicle charging stations connecting over 20 charging operators and 11,000 stations to date (https://vulcanpost.com/792464/beep-pilots-voltality-ev-charging-payment-singapore/)
  • Powers VoltNow and VoltPOS, SEA’s first pay-at-point solution for ad-hoc payments at Electric Vehicle charging stations enabling access to thousands of points across Singapore and Malaysia today (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/smartnationsg_ev-charging-platform-re-defined-activity-6919896796999655424-uE1E)

Backed by a variety of established venture, strategic and institutional funds with a strong focus on South-East Asia, this expansion aims to further enhance regional connectivity, offering seamless integration with various charging systems and broadening the network's reach. By partnering with local operators and leveraging cutting-edge technology, Voltality is poised to support the growing demand for electric mobility across these new markets.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in constructing a highly scalable platform for revolutionary new solutions that power the future of electric mobility and unattended retail.

What We Offer:

·      High‐impact engineering from Day 1: You’ll architect and build core infrastructure that powers real-world systems across Southeast Asia - from national deployments to millions of high-frequency transactions.

·      Deep ownership & autonomy: You’ll have end-to-end responsibility for major backend services, influence product direction, and help shape our engineering culture as we scale.

·      Technically challenging problems: From high-throughput payment rails to geospatial search optimisation, expect to work on systems where performance, reliability, and scale actually matter.

·      Opportunities to grow and lead: Whether you want to mentor engineers, lead architecture discussions, or drive cross-team initiatives, we’ll support you in becoming a key technical leader.

·      A product-focused engineering culture: We ship fast, iterate quickly, maintain a growth mindset, and keep a high bar for engineering quality.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Design and build scalable backend systems including payments, telemetry ingestion, geospatial indexes etc.

·      Develop products that accelerate EV adoption, such as open payments (wallets, cards, agentic commerce), real-time pricing engines, and interoperability tools between operators.

·      Own critical platform components end-to-end: architecture, implementation, deployment, observability, and ongoing reliability.

·      Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system behaviour, improve user experience, and ship features that impact consumers, operators, and government partners.

·      Continuously improve system performance and scalability, including database optimisation, caching strategies, concurrency improvements, and distributed system design.

·      Improve developer experience and internal tooling, ensuring our CI/CD, observability, and debugging workflows remain world-class.

·      Mentor junior engineers, give constructive code reviews, and promote engineering best practices across the team.

·      Work on innovative projects involving MCP, intelligent agents, data pipelines, and emerging AI-driven infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent working experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • 2-4 years of experience with Backend software development.
  • Comfortable working in a Unix/Shell environment.
  • Prior experience working with relational (preferably PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with DevOps / Observability tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, ArgoCD, OpenTelemetry and Grafana.
  • Experience designing highly-available systems using a microservice architecture.

Optional but preferable skills:

  • Experience working with Golang and TypeScript.
  • Knowledge of how to optimize and tune server performance (caching, SQL).
  • Experience designing event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
  • Experience building data pipelines.
  • Experience working with generative AI (MCP, Vector databases, RAG etc.)
  • Working understanding of networking (TCP).
  • Knowledge of EV charging protocols such as OCPP and OCPI.

If you have what it takes to be part of a rapidly-iterating, dynamic and agile startup environment, apply today with your CV and transcript and we hope to get in touch with you soon!
