About the role

As a Data Engineer at Wallester AS, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our financial products, analytical tools, and decision-making processes. You will design, implement, and optimize scalable data pipelines that ensure the availability, integrity, and reliability of our data across the organization.You will work closely with Architect, Software Engineers, Data Analysts, and Product teams to deliver high-quality data solutions that support card issuing, transaction processing, fraud detection, reporting, and real-time analytics.

What will you do?

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and streaming workflows
  • Develop and optimize data models, schemas, and warehouse/lake structures
  • Ensure high levels of data quality, accuracy, and availability across systems
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers to integrate application data with analytics, reporting, and operational systems
  • Build internal tools and reusable components to improve data discoverability and developer experience
  • Implement data governance, lineage, observability, and security best practices
  • Troubleshoot performance issues, optimize queries, and improve scalability
  • Actively contribute to engineering best practices, process improvements, and overall data culture within the company


What you'll need

  • 4+ years of proven experience as a Data Engineer, Backend Engineer, or in a similar role.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Go.
  • Solid understanding of databases, data modeling, and strong proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks and streaming platforms (Flink, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis, Firehose, or equivalents)
  • Experience working with data lakes (S3 or alternatives).
  • Experience with data warehouses and analytical database systems (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, ClickHouse).
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (ECS/EKS).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD best practices for data workflows.
  • Strong experience with AWS services, including Lambda, Glue, Athena, SNS, SQS, QuickSight, etc.
  • Experience using dbt or similar transformation frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Experience working in agile teams.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.


Nice to have

  • Experience with NoSQL technologies (DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Experience with search engines such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
  • Knowledge of IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools: CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience in fintech, card issuing, payments, or working with financial/regulated data
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards (OWASP, PCI DSS, GDPR)
  • Understanding of machine learning pipelines or feature stores.
