We are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team!

At Better, we are building software solutions that help medical teams improve patient care. Our advanced digital health platform and solutions already support over 30 million patients’ electronic health records across more than 20 markets worldwide, making data quality and reliability our top priorities.

As a QA Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the release process, performing various types of testing, and exploring AI possibilities in testing while staying up to date with standards. You will work on testing automation and proactively test core components of the system, raising potential risks with colleagues. You will prepare comprehensive testing reports and collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure high-quality software delivery. The role is focused on testing APIs, data integration, and access control mechanisms within Better’s core health data platforms, combining hands-on backend testing with automation and AI-assisted methods.

In a nutshell, you are:

  • A backend testing specialist: You design and execute test strategies for backend systems, APIs, and data services, including RESTful APIs and data transformations.
  • An automation enthusiast: You develop and maintain automated test scripts for backend validation and integration flows, leveraging AI tools (Copilot, Power Automate) to generate test cases and streamline reporting.
  • A collaborative team player: You work closely with development, clinical modelling, and QA teams to troubleshoot and verify system-level issues, and may mentor junior QA engineers as the team expands.
  • A quality advocate: You validate role-based and attribute-based access control logic, conduct regression, integration, and security testing, and prepare comprehensive testing reports using tools like TestRail.

Your core responsibilities will be:

  • Design and execute test strategies for backend systems, APIs, and data services.
  • Validate role-based and attribute-based access control (ABAC) logic to ensure data protection compliance.
  • Test RESTful APIs, data transformations, and FHIR profile implementations for interoperability.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts for backend validation and integration flows.
  • Use AI tools (Copilot, Power Automate) to generate test cases, streamline reporting, and support automation.
  • Conduct regression, integration, and security testing across environments.
  • Collaborate with development, clinical modelling, and QA teams to troubleshoot and verify system-level issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive testing reports using tools like TestRail, including detailed test exit reports for each release.
  • Support PEN testing activities and ensure timely resolution of security vulnerabilities.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in software testing or QA engineering.
  • At least 1–2 years focused on backend, integration, or API testing.
  • Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman, Bruno, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of backend data flow, authentication, and authorisation mechanisms (OAuth2, ABAC, RBAC).
  • Working knowledge of automation frameworks and scripting (Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript).
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools for documentation, test generation, and workflow automation.
  • Good understanding of SQL and backend data validation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps).
  • Exposure to healthcare or other data-sensitive domains is an advantage.
  • Prior experience testing FHIR-based or openEHR systems is a strong plus.
  • Comfortable working in agile and fast-evolving delivery environments.

What will you get as part of the Better team?

  • Full-time employment and other financial benefits: Enjoy a stable position with a range of comprehensive benefits tailored to make your work experience memorable.
  • Flexible work environment: Embrace a high degree of autonomy with flexible hours and a hybrid workplace that suits your lifestyle.
  • Continuous growth opportunities: We invest in your personal and professional development through a variety of internal and external training programs, mentoring, coaching, language courses, and a personal development fund to support your aspirations.
  • Commitment to wellbeing: Experience our dedicated employee wellbeing policy designed to prioritise your health and happiness.
  • Collaborative learning culture: Enjoy a non-hierarchical and supportive teamwork environment where knowledge sharing, critical thinking, and innovation are encouraged, allowing you to thrive.
  • Impactful healthcare transformations: Contribute to meaningful changes in the global healthcare landscape, with a focus on addressing societal challenges and enhancing healthcare delivery to millions of patients worldwide.
  • Inspiring office space: Work in a vibrant office with your own dedicated desk, located in a great location in the city of Ljubljana.
