About The Role

The Samsara AI team is responsible for building end-to-end AI solutions and core machine learning (ML) infrastructure that serve our diverse customer base. As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will work on analyzing and processing petabyte-scale data, including sensor readings, diagnostics, video, and text data, to develop solutions that address critical operational challenges globally.

This role involves close collaboration with ML engineers, scientists, full-stack developers, and firmware engineers to deliver core features, optimize services, and advance product capabilities. You will lead the design and implementation of AI initiatives on edge devices, develop both tactical and strategic AI solutions, and explore new AI experiences through cross-functional partnerships. The position is remote, open to candidates residing in Canada, with occasional travel up to 5%. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this role.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer.
• Profound expertise in optimizing ML models for edge computing constraints.
• Proficiency with frameworks such as Spark, Ray, or similar.
• Strong coding skills in Python, C++, and Rust.
• Deep understanding of the iterative machine learning product development process.
• Experience in developing and deploying production-scale AI solutions.
• Ability to translate ambiguous customer and business requirements into well-defined problems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience mentoring and coaching ML engineers.
• Proficiency in managing experiments and training models at scale using data-driven approaches.
• Deep knowledge in computer vision and multi-model AI architectures is a plus.

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI products on edge devices, ensuring high performance and reliability.

• Handle petabyte-scale data, including sensor, diagnostic, video, text, and location data, to derive actionable insights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore new AI features, optimize models, and improve existing solutions.
• Stay current with industry and academic research, integrating innovative technologies to enhance product offerings.
• Champion Samsara’s cultural principles, including customer success, long-term thinking, inclusivity, and teamwork, as we expand globally.
• Mentor and guide junior ML engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
• Participate in customer interactions, translating feedback into technical solutions that improve customer outcomes.
