Your opportunity

As the Chief of Staff (AO8) Office of the Commissioner, this is pivotal role in providing strategic coordination and support to the Commissioner, Minister and other senior Executives, to ensure alignment, progression of priorities and facilitate introduction of executive policies and directions.

Based At QFD State Headquarters In Albion, You Will

  • Lead the office of Commissioner to provide a high level of business support and delivery of objectives, develop and maintain strong cooperative working relationships to provide professional, timely and informed advice on departmental issues to senior officers and other key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the introduction of executive directions, policy and decisions across the department, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Ensure progression of departmental business priorities, negotiate appropriate responses on behalf of the Commissioner, utilising effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Develop media responses in partnership with Media and Communications to assist with delivery valuable messaging to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding the application of administrative, human resource and industrial relations principles to identify issues, resolve complaints and inform the Commissioner of issues likely to impact the department


This role operates with high degrees of autonomy and some travel is required due to operational nature of the department, availability outside regular hours is required.

What you'll bring

  • Strong experience working with executives and ministerial staff/government officials with a good understanding of government structures, framework and protocols.
  • Be a confident communicator with effective negotiation and conflict resolution experience.
  • Demonstrate advanced strategic thinking and decision-making skills to address complex issues and lead change.
  • Have proven experience leading a team with the ability to cultivate high trust relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
