About the position of Senior Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Engineer
As an AI/ML Engineer at Huisman, you develop intelligent solutions for autonomous or semi-autonomous operations. Working closely with teams like R&D, Sales, and Control Systems, you ensure successful innovation from design to deployment. Your work helps integrate AI into our systems, enabling smarter, safer, and more efficient offshore operations.
What do we expect of you?
As an AI/ML Engineer, you lead innovation by applying advanced machine learning to solve complex engineering challenges in offshore and heavy equipment. You help transform mechanical systems into intelligent, adaptive solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and autonomy.

We design and produce in-house and deliver our turn-key products to clients worldwide. Our clients choose us for our entrepreneurial spirit, skills, reliability, and innovative solutions. Examples? About the position of Senior Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Engineer
As an AI/ML Engineer at Huisman, you develop intelligent solutions for autonomous or semi-autonomous operations. What do we expect of you?
As an AI/ML Engineer, you lead innovation by applying advanced machine learning to solve complex engineering challenges in offshore and heavy equipment. You help transform mechanical systems into intelligent, adaptive solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and autonomy.
Your Responsibilities Are
- Developing AI models for object detection, predictive maintenance, autonomous operations, and operational assistance;
- Analysing sensor data (e.g., LIDAR, cameras, IMUs) for decision-making and operational support;
- Collaborating with control software teams to integrate machine learning algorithms with real-time control systems;
- Advising on AI and machine learning strategies and best practices across projects and in our processes.
You Are
- A driven and innovative engineer with a passion for AI and robotics;
- A team player who thrives in multidisciplinary environments;
- A problem solver who enjoys turning complex data into actionable intelligence;
- Someone who is excited by the challenge of bringing autonomy to heavy-duty offshore systems;
- Familiar with ROS and integrating machine learning algorithms into real-time control systems.
- A master's degree in artificial intelligence, data science and analytics, software engineering, robotics and embedded systems, or a related field;
- Over 10 years of hands-on experience with AI/ML in industrial environments. This includes developing and implementing real-world applications;
- Strong programming skills in Python, with proven experience using frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch;
- Practical experience with OpenCV, MATLAB/Simulink, and processing data from various sensors (e.g., LIDAR, cameras, and IMUs).
- An EU passport/valid work permit for the Netherlands;
- A good command of the English language (and preferably Dutch), both spoken and written.
