Position: Network Support Engineer (Cisco Catalyst LAN & WLAN)

Location: Essen, Ruhr Area, Germany

Duration: 6 months (extendable)

Start Date: November 12, 2025

Workload: Full-time, 5 days/week (Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Travel: Willingness to travel within Germany and occasionally internationally


Project Overview

  • Migration of WAN to a centrally managed and monitored SD-WAN solution.
  • Management and conversion of existing Cisco-based LAN and WiFi infrastructures during the project.
  • Implementation of a cloud-based Unified Communications (UC) platform as a PaaS solution.


Responsibilities

  • Project management, design, implementation, and administration of Cisco-based network architectures.
  • Analysis and evaluation of existing network infrastructures (legacy configuration review).
  • Development and documentation of Layer 2 design, including IP addressing schemes.
  • Migration of branch offices/sites to the new network design.
  • Configuration and administration of Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols.
  • Implementation and maintenance of authentication and authorization systems using TACACS+.
  • Support and troubleshooting of wireless networks (WLAN).
  • Management of Cisco wireless solutions (IOS-XE controller-based, access points).
  • Collaboration with security teams, WAN teams, and other IT departments.
  • Thorough documentation of configurations, processes, and network topologies.


Professional Profile

  • Solid experience with Cisco Catalyst platforms (especially Catalyst 9000 series and Cisco Catalyst Center/DNA Center).
  • Strong knowledge of Layer 2 & Layer 3 technologies (STP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP).
  • Experience with TACACS+, RADIUS, ideally Cisco ISE.
  • Good knowledge of WLAN architecture, AP configuration, and wireless security.
  • Hands-on experience in network migrations.
  • Familiarity with network analysis and monitoring tools.
  • Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Wireless) preferred.
  • Understanding of network security concepts and ITIL change management processes.
  • Language: Fluent German (C1/C2) and English (written & spoken).


Other Requirements

  • Candidates must be employed and subject to social security contributions.
  • Chain deals are not possible.
  • CCNP Certified Engineer with 4–5 years of solid experience (flexible if technically strong).
  • Native German not required, but C1 German certification is mandatory.
