About Our Search

We are currently looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our client who is a biotech company specializing in bioinformatics solutions for rare diseases and cancer, leveraging Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.

The ideal candidate is an experienced DevOps professional with hands-on expertise in bare-metal environments, Linux internals, automation, and observability. If you enjoy working directly with hardware, tuning systems at low level, and building robust deployments without depending on cloud providers, this role offers a uniquely challenging technical environment.

Role Overview

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the company’s physical server infrastructure, networking stack, CI/CD pipelines, and automation workflows.

You will work closely with engineering teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance across bare-metal systems and distributed environments.

This role requires deep technical expertise in Linux, on-premise networking, server provisioning, and infrastructure automation — supported by strong analytical and debugging skills.

Key Responsibilities

Core Bare Metal & Hardware Operations

  • Configure and manage PXE boot environments (PXE, iPXE, DHCP, TFTP)
  • Work with Linux boot mechanisms including GRUB, initrd, and systemd
  • Manage out-of-band server interfaces such as IPMI, iDRAC, and ILO
  • Configure and troubleshoot storage architectures (RAID controllers, software RAID, ZFS)

Operating Systems & Networking

  • Administer and tune Linux distributions (RHEL/CentOS, Debian/Ubuntu)
  • Perform kernel-level optimization using sysctl, resource tuning, and filesystem expertise (ext4, XFS, Btrfs)
  • Manage physical networking: VLANs, LACP/Bonding, STP, LLDP, BGP/OSPF
  • Configure hypervisors and virtualization stacks: KVM, QEMU, Proxmox, VMware ESXi
  • Conduct performance analysis using eBPF, perf, strace, tcpdump, and system profiling tools

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

  • Manage configuration baselines using Ansible (without cloud-init dependencies)
  • Develop automation scripts in Bash and Python for hardware APIs and provisioning pipelines

Containerization & Orchestration

  • Manage and optimize Docker Swarm environments at scale

Observability & CI/CD

  • Deploy and maintain monitoring stacks: Prometheus (node_exporter), Grafana, ELK/Loki
  • Monitor hardware health metrics (SMART, fan speeds, temperatures) along with application KPIs
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
  • Work with self-hosted runners deploying directly onto physical servers

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience after graduation in DevOps, Systems Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering
  • Advanced Linux administration skills with deep understanding of OS internals
  • Experience managing high-performance hardware and bare-metal deployments
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance analysis skills
  • Solid understanding of physical networking and routing protocols
  • Proficiency with Ansible, Bash, and Python
  • Experience with Docker Swarm and distributed environments
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Knowledge of hardware lifecycle management
  • Exposure to high-availability architectures
  • Security-focused mindset
