We operate in the IT services & staffing sector supporting Australian businesses across web development, digital transformation and SaaS. This on-site internship places entry-level engineering talent into fast-paced development teams to gain hands-on experience building production web applications.
Role: PHP Developer Intern (On-site, Australia)
Role & Responsibilities
- Contribute to PHP-based web applications: implement feature work, bug fixes and component-level improvements under senior developer guidance.
- Build and consume RESTful APIs, design database queries and help optimise MySQL-backed endpoints for performance.
- Write clean, modular PHP (OOP) code and integrate with front-end markup using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Use Git for source control—create branches, raise pull requests, and participate in code reviews following team workflows.
- Assist with troubleshooting in local and staging environments; reproduce issues, write test cases and validate fixes.
- Collaborate daily with product owners, designers and engineers; follow sprint processes and deliver incremental value.
Must-Have
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Computer Science, IT or equivalent practical experience; entry-level candidates encouraged.
- Hands-on experience with PHP and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Basic SQL skills and familiarity with MySQL or other relational databases.
- Comfortable with HTML, CSS and JavaScript for front-end integration and debugging.
- Working knowledge of Git and command-line workflows.
- Available to work on-site in Australia for the internship duration.
- Experience with Laravel or another PHP MVC framework (CodeIgniter, Symfony).
- Familiarity with Composer, package management and basic deployment concepts.
- Exposure to Linux-based development, Apache/Nginx configuration or Docker.
- Understanding of automated testing, CI/CD basics and code quality tooling.
- Structured mentorship from senior developers and hands-on experience with real product codebases.
- Fast-learning environment with regular feedback, technical workshops and paired-programming opportunities.
