We are growing our engineering capability in Slovenia and looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic, cross-functional team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of big data, retail tech, and global expansion — all while being part of a strategic hub driving innovation for Europe and beyond.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, build and scale cloud-native data pipelines using Databricks, Delta Lake, Microsoft Fabric, Google BigQuery and the broader Azure or GCP ecosystem.
• Collaborate with product owners, analysts, and data scientists to deliver end-to-end solutions for internal and client-facing platforms.
• Own the development and maintenance of lakehouses, data lakes, data warehouses, and streaming pipelines, ensuring performance, governance, and scalability.
• Engineer and optimize data platforms, supporting both batch and real-time use cases across multiple geographies.
• Drive best practices in data engineering, including CI/CD, data quality, lineage, and observability.
• Lead technical discussions, mentor junior engineers, and shape the future of our data architecture strategy.
• Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies.
• Ensure data governance, observability, and performance across all layers of the stack.

About You:

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software development with a strong data focus.
• Ideally deep expertise with Databricks (including Spark, Delta Lake, and the Databricks Lakehouse platform).
• Proficiency with distributed processing frameworks such as Apache Spark and data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dataflow, or Databricks Workflows.
• Proficient in Python and SQL for data transformation and automation.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms, Azure or GCP.
• Experience using dbt (Data Build Tool) for developing, testing, and deploying modular data transformation workflows.
• Experience with MS SQL and related SQL packages, including developing queries, procedures, managing databases, optimizing performance, and working with a variety of SQL-based tools to support data processing and analysis.
• Knowledge of data modeling, data governance, and distributed systems.
• Ability to design highly scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, including streaming and micro-batch architectures.
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and solid understanding of DevOps, with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.
