Role Overview
The Product Designer will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing innovative and commercially viable home products with a focus on textiles (bedding, bath, cushions, table linens) and hard goods (dining, serveware, kitchen utility, decorative accessories).
The role requires strong design thinking, trend research, material & manufacturing knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration with merchandising, sourcing, quality, and suppliers to deliver customer-centric and brand-aligned products.
Key Responsibilities
Trend & Customer Insight
- Conduct global and local market trend research: materials, textures, finishes, colours, and prints.
- Analyse consumer preferences, user experience, and behaviour to design relevant products.
- Create and maintain seasonal design direction aligned with brand positioning.
Product Conceptualization & Design
- Develop design concepts from concept to final product including:
- 3D renderings
- Prints / Material /colour specifications
- Packaging concepts and designs
- Ensure designs meet functional, ergonomic, and aesthetic standards.
- Balance innovation with sustainability goals and cost targets.
Range & Collection Development
- Build cohesive collections for multiple seasons/year including:
- Theme creation & mood boards
- Surface designs , Prints & graphics
- Coordinated range planning across categories (textile + hard goods)
- Work closely with Buying / merchandising to align assortment with business strategy.
Vendor & Production Collaboration
- Partner with buyers , sourcing teams & manufacturers to ensure design feasibility.
- Review prototypes, samples, and pre-production products.
- Conduct on-site vendor visits for material selection, sampling, and quality validation.
Costing & Compliance
- Support cost optimization through material efficiencies and design techniques.
- Ensure products comply with safety, sustainability, and quality standards.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with B&M, marketing and retail teams for product success in market.
- Provide design support for in-store displays, lifestyle photoshoots, and storytelling.
Required Qualification & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Textile Design, or related fields. ( preferably NIFT Delhi )
- 5–7 years’ experience in designing home textiles + hard goods for retail or export markets.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong product aesthetics and commercial product launches.
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong sketching, CAD design & rendering skills (e.g., Adobe etc)
- Understanding of textile fabrication, printing techniques, and hard goods manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of material science – wood, metal, ceramics, glass, plastics
- Surface pattern design expertise
- Cost engineering & product optimization
- Knowledge of packaging design
