Job Title: Fixed Wireless Network Engineer (PtP / PtMP / ISP)

Position Type: Full-Time, Remote

Working Hours: U.S. client business hours - EST

About The Role

Pavago is hiring a Fixed Wireless Network Engineer for a U.S.-based client specialising in enterprise networking and ISP-grade wireless backhaul. This role blends routing/switching, firewalls, and hands-on fixed wireless engineering (PtP, PtMP, Cambium, Peplink, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik).

You will ensure networks—wired and wireless—are stable, optimised, secure, and well-documented.

This role also includes leadership duties, including mentoring junior engineers, guiding field technicians, and enforcing best practices across the network team.

Responsibilities

Network Configuration & Maintenance

  • Configure and manage routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet).
  • Implement VLANs, VPNs, QoS, ACLs, and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).
  • Manage Fixed Wireless links including PtP/PtMP deployments, antenna alignment, and link optimization.
  • Configure and maintain wireless platforms (Peplink, Cambium, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik).
  • Perform firmware upgrades, backup management, and device patching.

  • Fixed Wireless Engineering

    • Deploy and maintain PtP/PtMP microwave/wireless links.
    • Conduct RF surveys, LOS checks, Fresnel zone analysis, and path planning.
    • Troubleshoot interference, throughput drops, latency, jitter, and instability.
    • Optimize radios, dish antennas, APs, CPEs, and relay links.
    • Use monitoring tools such as InControl, cnMaestro, UISP.

    Monitoring & Troubleshooting

    • Monitor networks using PRTG, SolarWinds, Zabbix, Nagios, InControl, UISP, and cnMaestro.
    • Use Wireshark, TCPdump, RF tools to diagnose network and RF issues.
    • Resolve escalated incidents and produce RCA documentation.
    • Investigate routing problems, packet loss, latency, and RF performance degradation.

    Security & Compliance

    • Configure firewall rules, segmentation, ACLs, IDS/IPS, and secure VPNs.
    • Protect wireless backhaul infrastructure using Zero Trust principles.
    • Support compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR).

    Leadership, Management & Training

    • Provide technical leadership for network operations and wireless engineering.
    • Train and mentor junior engineers, NOC technicians, and field installers.
    • Create troubleshooting guides, SOPs, and installation standards.
    • Review and approve configurations before deployment.
    • Lead remote field teams during antenna alignment, tower work, and complex installations.
    • Coordinate cross-functional communication with project managers, support teams, and client leadership.
    • Enforce best practices for routing, switching, wireless tuning, and change management.

    Performance & Optimization

    • Conduct bandwidth and capacity planning.
    • Improve redundancy, load balancing, and failover logic.
    • Maintain ≥ 99.9% uptime across wired and wireless environments.
    • Reduce interference and optimize RF channel usage.

    Documentation & Governance

    • Maintain network diagrams, RF path profiles, configs, and topology maps.
    • Update change logs using ITIL change management standards.
    • Produce RF survey reports, installation documentation, and audit-ready artifacts.

    Collaboration & Projects

    • Participate in new wireless deployments, upgrades, migrations, and RF redesigns.
    • Work closely with field teams during physical alignments and site installs.
    • Support cloud integrations (AWS VPC, Azure VNets).
    • Advise on hardware selection for routers, radios, switches, and antennas.

What Makes You a Great Fit

    • Strong foundation in routing/switching + hands-on wireless engineering.
    • Experience with PtP/PtMP (Cambium, Peplink, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik).
    • Strong troubleshooting instincts and calm under pressure.
    • Clear communicator and strong documentation habits.
    • Leadership mindset: able to guide junior engineers and technicians.

    Required Experience (Minimum)

    • 5+ years of hands-on network engineering.
    • Fixed Wireless experience (Cambium, Peplink, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik).
    • Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).
    • Experience with RF tools and monitoring systems.
    • Cisco CCNA/CCNP or equivalent.
    • Excellent English communication.

    Preferred Experience

    • Microwave or long-distance RF links.
    • AWS/Azure cloud networking.
    • Automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform).
    • ISP or WISP network operations experience.

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • 99.9% uptime.
    • MTTR within SLA.
    • Healthy RF metrics (RSSI, SNR, throughput).
    • Zero missed critical patches.
    • Clear, accurate documentation.
    • Strong client satisfaction.
